Cigar Number 1: How did you fare 

Get pick for cigar number 2 in before Sunday this week!!!! 

 

We will be revealing cigars 1-5 over successive weeks. You get your picks in by the end of Sunday your time and we will post the results by the following Tuesday/Wednesday (time differences etal).

Wow! With that hard box press it sure looked like every dress box RASS I’ve ever had, mine just tasted nothing like it. Funny thing is I smoked a RASS immediately after Cigar 1 so as to not end my night on a note of sadness. Even back-to-back I didn’t recognize the two as the same cigar. I think the rollers who made my Cigar 1 were just having a particularly bad day. 🤣

I smoked cigar number one completely blind -- without sizing it up against other cigars or taking a measurement. I was convinced that the cigar was a Famosos. The stick simply lacked the sourness of a RASS, but still delivered dark, stewed fruit -- so I figured it had to be from Vega Robaina. Based on my misplaced confidence with the first stick, I got it in my head that we must be blind testing Hermosos No.4. All the guesses I have submitted since have therefore been from that vitola. 

EDIT: I notice that I never hit "send" on the email to Lisa with my picks for cigars 3 & 4. Thank goodness there is still time for me to change those!

Oh I love to sit on the sidelines and watch this!  Always do. The few times i participated years ago were humbling to say the least-takes more cojones than I have to do this. Great job to those who picked correctly. From the reviews I would have guessed Famosos.

I am still unsure if this is more of a testament to inconsistency due to Habanos color sorting wrappers, or people just not being very good at this? Little of both maybe. Good luck everyone!

I also smoked a 2024 RASS and 2024 BRC a couple days after Cigar 1. Both were entirely different experiences, so I figured it must have been a cigar I didn't have on hand to compare...🤷‍♂️

Same! I smoked a two year old RASS just a couple cigars before contest Cigar #1 and I got nothing. It was such a disgusting ammonia bomb (worse than I've ever had). I gave it a few minutes to try and get that bready Boli note or the stewed fruit RASS note. Props to you 12 who picked it up (or blind guessed because it was exactly 50/50 odds). The rest of you who didn't look at the actual size of the contest cigars!? 🙈

I took the cigars and tried fitting them in a box of robustos and a box of Hermosos.

It seemed to me 2 was a robusto but 1, 3 and 4 were Hermosos. And no clue what 5 is, I thought PC.

Guess either I eyeballed them wrong or Cuba being Cuba.

I have no idea how you got to PC, I thought it was typo when you posted. Robusto 125mm, Hermoso 127mm and PC 129mm. Either I got the fattest PC in existence or you got the skinniest Hermoso known to man 😂 

What’s with @Fuzz and Luca picking D5 though? A full 15mm shorter than a Robusto. Or they were hammered and did a typo 😂. Probably still hammered.

I'm going through a '21 box at the moment. All over the place. TUA code. 5 in so far. I'd say 3 good, 2 not so. Not surprised to hear and see the same here. The dark wrappers and box press is usually the giveaway 🙂 So long as you can gauge the size! 

And who are all these people taking part? 2000 posts minimum next time! Barely recognise any names.

For some basic maths. Random chances of getting the right Robusto. 1 in 8. 12.5%.  Hard to count but I get 55 entrants with 12 correct. So 22% correct. Pretty good! 
Chances for Fuzz and Luca. 1/25 (all cigars with 50rg regardless of length) it seems 😂

Swing and a miss! FWIW - I partially picked JL2 because my stick had green spots on the wrapper, something I've seen on several JLs but never on a RASS until now.  Live and learn.

I've got that same code + date RASS and yes, they are somewhat off the RASS mark - at least for now. Let's see what happens over the coming year.

Thought I nailed cigar #1 and was pretty confident on cigar #5 being a BRC - now I am not sure. I thought #4 was a RASS! It just didn't have any of the sourness or typical RASS profile. Then again the ones I smoked recently had at least 2/3 years on them, this one was probably from a fresh box.
