MoeFOH Posted Tuesday at 10:24 PM Posted Tuesday at 10:24 PM Midweek Shootout Poll - where we randomly pit two Cuban sticks against one another to see which comes out on top. CoRo took down the D4 last week. Intriguing match-up again this week! If you've had one and not the other or have had neither, give us your answer and discussion based on your experience and/or the allure/desire/interest in these combatants. Read the scenario, vote in the poll, discuss below if you wish 1 1
Lucas Buck Posted Tuesday at 10:35 PM Posted Tuesday at 10:35 PM Monte 4 are horribly inconsistent but good ones hit my palate dead on. Still never had a RASS that was anything more than ok and I’ve smoked plenty of them up to 20 years old. So Monte 4 is my vote. 1
westg Posted Tuesday at 10:46 PM Posted Tuesday at 10:46 PM It's a bit like this . Monte 4 up against a RASS. A little language warning. Specially Select for me https://youtu.be/dNl3jvApJqU?si=MZwxQPNqp_0RiwFC 1
Chibearsv Posted Tuesday at 10:56 PM Posted Tuesday at 10:56 PM I’ve never had a Monte 4 that I thought was wonderful but lots of them that were very good. RASS I’ve had a handful that were wonderful and many more that were just cigars. I’ll vote RASS for the upside potential. 2
Popular Post Havanaaddict Posted Tuesday at 11:46 PM Popular Post Posted Tuesday at 11:46 PM Super easy for me RASS (50 cab) I could smoke every day. I know some people don’t get it. I have had some with light wrappers that just don’t represent the RASS Cigar. But then again if you ever had MUR 13 it would change your mind. I have had really good Monte 4s but they were all from the 80s to maybe 98’ then it was always hit and miss! 5
Habanoschris Posted Wednesday at 04:04 AM Posted Wednesday at 04:04 AM My best RASS > my best Monte #4 3
loose_axle Posted Wednesday at 05:32 AM Posted Wednesday at 05:32 AM RASS all the way but then I'm not a huge fan of Montecristo. I do find the RASS Gigantes lite though. 3
Jaks93 Posted Wednesday at 08:04 AM Posted Wednesday at 08:04 AM Unquestionably the RASS, far more consistent and flavourful! 3
Popular Post griller Posted Wednesday at 11:04 AM Popular Post Posted Wednesday at 11:04 AM I smoked a RASS back in 1998 that I still remember to this day as one of the most amazing cigars that has ever crossed my palate. Been chasing that experience ever since & haven't gotten close but am still a fan. Smoked a bunch more Monte #4s (probably 20 to 1 compared to RASS) and will hopefully never be without at least a 10ct box at all times. Like @Habanoschris mentioned the best Monte #4 hasn't come close to that 1998 RASS, but spread out across the board they've been a lot more consistent in quality & flavor profile. I went with the #4s this go-around for that reason but ask me next week & I may go the other way. 5
Wookie Posted Wednesday at 02:29 PM Posted Wednesday at 02:29 PM I love a good Monte, but I only have #2s and Edmundos so I went with RASS. 1
Ford2112 Posted Wednesday at 07:22 PM Posted Wednesday at 07:22 PM I have a huge soft spot in my heart for Monte 4. You get a good one and remember why they are so popular. RASS has never really grabbed me. RASCC has though. I went Monte. Just gotta get the right box. I will occasionally buy a petaca of 5. 3
BG318 Posted Wednesday at 07:43 PM Posted Wednesday at 07:43 PM Monte 4 was one of my first CC's. I remember saying that I would have one of these for lunch every day in heaven. It is eternally etched in my cigar smoking DNA. I didn't even get to try a RASS until a couple of years ago. I really like them, but I feel that in many ways a Monte 4 is the essence of the CC experience, including the inconsistent quality. Monte 4. 3
Popular Post JohnS Posted Wednesday at 09:06 PM Popular Post Posted Wednesday at 09:06 PM Of course the Ramon Allones Specially Selected is more consistent than the Montecristo 4. But I've never had a Ramon Allones Specially Selected take me to the 'edge of the stratosphere' in the same way that an exemplary Montecristo No.4 has. 5
