MoeFOH Posted February 3 Posted February 3 I used to scoff at the idea... but, now, I'm thinking it's most likely we are... Admittedly, these thoughts are most prominent when the tv remote inexplicably disappears only to reappear in the most obvious place after 20mins of thoroughly destroying the house looking for it... or the "signature required" delivery I've been waiting for all day turns up the moment I go to take a dump... (sorry for that imagery. ) Surely these and other such instances can only be the result of a smart-arse programmer watching on? 🤔 What are your thoughts on the simulation hypothesis? Vote & discuss. 1
MrBirdman Posted February 3 Posted February 3 I mean if we are in a simulation then who is simulating us? Are they in a simulation too? The logic applies equally for each “level” of reality. My own feelings are no, we aren’t, but even if we are it doesn’t really change how we should live our lives. But if I wake up in a pod of goo with tubes running into my mouth and head then fall back to sleep, I’ll be sure to let you guys know! 3
unaslob Posted February 3 Posted February 3 When you delve into the complexities of life and the series of events that got us here, then contemplate how it all began/pre big bang/why universe there in first place it almost has to be a simulation. 5 hours ago, MrBirdman said: I mean if we are in a simulation then who is simulating us? riderpride Posted February 3 Posted February 3 It may seem like it with the rise of people acting like NPCs and drowning themselves in social media, but most of us are aware enough to not need the red pill. Many do. This seems a derivative of the Religious Enlightenment period of the 17th and 18th centuries. It's been too long since university for me to remember much. Then again - perhaps that's how a simulated character would reply 🤔 Cheers 2
SirVantes Posted February 3 Posted February 3 Do you mean that we are living in the same simulation? When I'm interacting with another "person", am I interacting with that person, or with the simulation? Or do you mean we are all living separate simulations, independent from each other? In which case, who are you, in fact, what are you? You must be the simulation trying to trap me into admitting I know "the truth" and will then flush me. Not falling for it. 1

Erm, that's exactly what a coincidence is. What would be truly freaky and thought-provoking is if there were no coincidences, none at all... 1
Li Bai Posted February 3 Posted February 3 It's a 2000 year old question at least ! "Once, Zhuang Zhou dreamed he was a butterfly, a butterfly flitting and fluttering about, happy with himself and doing as he pleased. He didn't know that he was Zhuang Zhou. Suddenly he woke up and there he was, solid and unmistakable Zhuang Zhou. But he didn't know if he was Zhuang Zhou who had dreamt he was a butterfly, or a butterfly dreaming that he was Zhuang Zhou. Between Zhuang Zhou and the butterfly there must be some distinction! This is called the Transformation of Things. " — Zhuangzi, chapter 2 (Watson translation) Fwiw, I'm not convinced by the last decades' evolution of neurosciences. To sum it up mind=brains=glorified computer, it's a purely materialistic way of understanding human experience and that's one of the things that led us where we are right now. Simulation, what's real and what's not...Is there meaning in my life? What a wonderful quest it is in my eyes! 3 1
99call Posted February 3 Posted February 3 Are our lives are still real : Yes Are there disgusting people that would like to place us in vats of gloop and use us as batteries: Yes Should we place these people in prison and throw away the key; Yes 1

That would take resources pampering them in woke prison state. Turn them into Soylent Green 🍏

Turn them into Soylent Green 🍏 I wouldn’t provide these pathetic incels with a last thrill of realising their death was from a sci-fi film. No stun guns, no Vulcan neck pinches, no falling into black holes. Just a boring grim jail cell. No computers, no comics, no rubiks cubes, no magic 8 balls, no girlfriend visits (but they’ll be used to that).
