El Presidente Posted November 25, 2024 Posted November 25, 2024 I am going to run this poll series over my current rotation cigars. We can expand from there. If these cigars are in your rotation, please take part. Let's define rotation as a cigar that is smoked at least once every four months In terms of ratings, live with the points system as put forward. Some members use stars, others have a 10 point assessment process, others use bananas.......it doesn't really matter....just adapt as best you can. Saint Luis Rey Regio
cnov Posted November 25, 2024 Posted November 25, 2024 Was lucky to snag a box on the way out of Covid from FoH. I've had a few as I've seen you write that they're often great young, enjoyable but I feel they need a bit more time to make a proper assessment.
99call Posted November 25, 2024 Posted November 25, 2024 They had that great run a year or so ago. I have no idea if they are still on that run, but the boxes I'm smoking from are epic. Again a blend of juxtaposition that achieves greatness. There's a real raspberry sweetness, but also a heavy barnyard manure/leather aspect. Interestingly perfumes like Tom Fords 'Tuscan Leather' and Aqua Di Parma's 'Colonia Leather', all have Raspberry in their formulations as a top note. It seems someone knows this combo works. 4

Tunkat92 Posted November 26, 2024 Posted November 26, 2024 Haven’t smoked any ‘23-24’s yet, just haven’t been lucky enough to score a box. Sometimes a box needs age, sometimes they smoke excellent fresh, but I rarely feel disappointed by one.
Jimmy2 Posted November 27, 2024 Posted November 27, 2024 2023 have been the stellar !!!! Just mind blowing how good !
Jerryvonkramer Posted November 27, 2024 Posted November 27, 2024 Severely underrated stick in my view.
BrightonCorgi Posted November 27, 2024 Posted November 27, 2024 A couple of members here were sporting enough to send/trade cigars for me to have a sampler Regios and other SLR cigars. At best, I thought they were just above ok. I am convinced I am indifferent to SLR. I'd only buy SLR if the shop owner said this particular batch is worth buying or I'd skip. Is it different rollers and blenders just for SLR (jokingly).
Capn_Jackson Posted November 27, 2024 Posted November 27, 2024 I’ve only smoked a few that were traded to me or given as gifts, and have greatly enjoyed them. They would be in my rotation if I had a box, which is something I need to remedy.
garifo Posted November 27, 2024 Posted November 27, 2024 0, haven't had it yet. I've been trying to get a box or a sampler.
Cigarsmoker81 Posted November 27, 2024 Posted November 27, 2024 I would say 90...good day time cigar. (My boxes are 2020-2021)
bredy387 Posted November 29, 2024 Posted November 29, 2024 I’ve definitely had the Saint Luis Rey Regio in my rotation a few times. I’d give it a solid rating, though I’m more of a "thumbs up" person than using a strict points system.
AusDyer Posted November 30, 2024 Posted November 30, 2024 Ever since the 00s I've found the SLR Regios to be all over the place (more than most), but more often than not extremely tightly rolled and a bit muddled and bitter. If you can find good boxes that have a more open and consistent draw and good blend they can be fantastic though, rich and with a lot of unique gingerbread richness. Like any Cuban cigar, you simply cannot possibly rate them as a whole. They massively change from batch to batch and box to box, often from unsmokably tight and/or bitter or sour and thin tasting to beautiful, rich, creamy and complex. I just simply never ever buy online now. I used to occasionally, from merchants I knew well and looking up box codes I knew were likely very good, but since this pricing explosion I have to go to a proper store and browse their stock in person and sample one before buying more. There's simply no other way of making sure you get a good box. Unfortunately, the extortionate pricing makes the risk simply enormous unless you're a multi-millionaire with thousands to fritter away without much care.
Fugu Posted November 30, 2024 Posted November 30, 2024 Prime example of a marca where they kept the least exciting format. 2

On a assez de Robustos ! 1
potpest Posted December 2, 2024 Posted December 2, 2024 I've got great boxes of the Serie A, PC and DC and they are my favourite cigars, the Regios has never met those in the past. I smoked a Regios I picked up recently on Saturday after struggling through a terrible Hoyo Escogidos plagued with construction issues and it was glorious, cigar of the week for me. 1
