Sia
Hello! Wondering if anyone has had any experience with La Gloria Cubana - Serie D No.5 RE Espana 2017? Thinking of getting a box and wondering if people tried/liked? Keen on your thoughts 🤓
loose_axle
G'day Sia! I bought a box back when they came out. Smoked 5 over the last 3-4 years. Disliked them. Gave the rest to mates and they loved them. One said it's the best cigar he's ever smoked. To me they were similar to a Montecristo Edmundo in flavour and I really don't like that cigar. So it's me. I apologise that my thoughts aren't more positive
JohnS
41 minutes ago, loose_axle said: So it's me. Good news, it's not just you! This Regional Edition is infamous for breaking the previous 100000 stick limit for Distributors. In this case, the Spanish Distributor went for 500000 which meant two things: There were obviously too many made and as a result of the time frame, I noted that these suffered construction issues. It didn't take long for retailers to discount these to move stock. Whilst they may not be discounted today, nowadays one would risk getting a box that is inconsistent in smoking performance/construction/flavours. Ultimately, it's your call @Sia, but hey...you asked and our motto here on our forum is to assist our members in this hobby at every opportunity. 2

I've heard that before, the cigars I've had were gifted to me so I have no idea of box codes or even year of production and I've only had two so I'd go with @JohnS on this one. I've just been lucky I guess...
Popular Post nKostyan
This release had a pale taste and roughness, but over the years it has transformed into a great tasty cigar. My box is LAT DIC 17 5

After my experience with these I was almost put off ever buying a Spanish regional again (I haven’t I recently got the Leones but yet to try).

As I grow older I appreciate brutal honesty more than ever. Do you think this risk around inconsistency of a box, is offset, or rather worth it, given that this box will have now 7 yrs of age on it?

Do you think this risk around inconsistency of a box, is offset, or rather worth it, given that this box will have now 7 yrs of age on it? To answer this question, I'd like to share an anecdote. Around thirty years ago, a friend of mine who was a lawyer, told me that in his profession, he often had to explain to clients that the likely outcome of their legal advocacy involved a situation that they were willing to 'live with'. In other words, the law wasn't black-and-white, even if one felt justified in their actions in relation to the law, it didn't mean that they'd receive a result 100% in their favour. In much the same way, an acquisition of this type would mean that your expectation should be balanced. If the cigars don't turn out as you'd like, would you be willing to accept that outcome as something you're willing to live with? Look, it's a risk. At the present time, within this hobby (of smoking Habanos cigars), we aren't seeing things like hot box codes anymore or regular production cigars that have exemplary leaf like in the past. The best leaf is going into premium or new regular production releases that have a higher price-point. So, we're left with the anticipation of seeking value from our boxes that we've had aging away and a developing/peaking to expectations and therefore satisfying us. If you want a chance to experience this for yourself, then go ahead a get the box...as long as you're okay to live with any disappointment.
BrightonCorgi
This is a cigar that should be on thread about old school tasting Habanos. Spanish market likes punchy cigars and this one fits the bill. I should've bought way more of these in retrospect. I would stock up if you can get them reasonably priced. I haven't had any burn or construction issues so far.

But as its from one of my least favourite marcas I keep putting getting these on hold  Haven't tried the Diplomaticos Espana, not too hard to get, and I love Diplomaticos, but for price I can almost get a box of Dip 2's so sort of waiting to see if the reviews blast anyone's socks off before I throw coin at it.

westg
They are a fantastic little stick. Very unique, not your typical LGC profile. A little sad to say I picked my boxes up for 95 US notes each. Never the less, go for it.

Fireball
I have some sitting in the back of the stash. Sounds like a good day to give one a run.
Popular Post Fireball
Finally got around to getting one of these out this morning. Caramel on the cold draw.  No construction or burn issues. It had a hay flavor but deeper and richer than Cohiba. Combine that with some type of zip (like orange?) and a lot of that Cuban ‘Twang’. Very unique and enjoyable.
