El Presidente Posted February 27, 2024 Posted February 27, 2024 I have had my share of weird and whacky foods over the years but I have never had the below.........Deep Fried Butter on a stick! Someone here must have tried this .....spill the beans 1
El Presidente Posted February 27, 2024 Author Posted February 27, 2024 I haven't made it for a while but I a have a hankering to do it soon. It is brilliant. Oyster and truffle pizza 4
Chitmo Posted February 28, 2024 Posted February 28, 2024 Only food that I was ever presented with that I couldn’t bring myself to try was Casu Marzu. I don’t recommend looking into it if you have a weak stomach. 1 1
Lomey Posted February 28, 2024 Posted February 28, 2024 We had a neighborhood barbecue a couple of summers ago and someone made deep fried oreos . Of course I tried one, but I wish I hadn't. Oreos are one of my favorite cookies, but deep fried was gross. Ruined me on them for awhile.
Pmo13 Posted February 28, 2024 Posted February 28, 2024 Got this specimen at a “splurge” dinner a while back. Uni, quails egg yolk and caviar topped with chives, yuzu and sea salt. Whole thing is meant to be taken at once like a shooter of sorts. Actually was pretty good despite the daunting textures. 1

Chas.Alpha Posted February 28, 2024 Posted February 28, 2024 Ah, the Norwegian board-of-fare. Fuzz Posted February 28, 2024 Posted February 28, 2024 Traveling through China, I've come across some weird food items for sure. Most I was game to try, like drunken shrimp (freshwater shrimp soaked live in baijiu, then served either live or cooked), an assortment of fried insects and larvae, and even pig's blood cake. However, there were definitely things I refused to touch like; dog meat, duck embryo (aka balut in Philippines), stinky tofu or any fermented tofu (which is odd because I do eat durian), and the worst one of all.... virgin boy eggs. If you don't know what that last one is, they are chicken eggs soaked and then boiled in the urine from young boys. Once boiled, the egg shells are then cracked and the urine replaced with a fresh batch and the eggs simmered again. The process is repeated throughout the day, slowly curing the eggs. Once finished, the whites take on a yellow colour (not surprising) and the yolk turns green. Much like tea eggs or century eggs, they were a method to preserve eggs for longer, but then picked up "health" benefit superstitions. Like many Chinese medicinal superstitions, it is meant to cure heatiness. I swear, every single time I felt ill, my grandmother would always blame it on heatiness. Thankfully, she never made me eat virgin boy eggs! 1 1 1

Domsday Posted February 28, 2024 Posted February 28, 2024 25 or so years ago I was out in the desert near Riyadh in Saudia Arabia for some dune bashing. A bunch of Bedouins had gotten stuck in their Toyota Hilux, so we managed to pull them out. We were thanked with a cup of fresh unpasteurised and warm Camel milk…didn’t think I could refuse, but no idea how I kept that one down! 🤮 1

Ford2112 Posted February 29, 2024 Posted February 29, 2024 Virgin boy pee eggs may be the worst thing I have ever read. What is wrong with people??
