"While that alone is reason enough to visit, the real appeal is the one-of-a-kind setting, views that take in centuries of history, and a combination of service, atmosphere, libations and tobacco unrivalled in the city."

long time since i was there but, aside from the first three days when a friend and i could not move more than six feet from the facilities, i loved the place. so much to see and do and great food (well, the food that is not poisoned). i was even offered a herd of camels for my friend. if it had been something more useful...

Absolutely worth a visit. The Peninsula Instanbul is simply majestic every single element of well thought out elegance. The place is rich in culture. The food is well an eating destination and the quality of service is high. Neolokal a fantastic restaurant. Turkish wines go and explore them they are  bloody good. The scenery smells and atmosphere...breathtaking.

If you were to name the busiest airports in Europe, the first two you'd probably mention would be Heathrow Airport in London, England and Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris, France. However, in the last few years, Istanbul Airport in Turkey has had more annual visitors than Charles de Gaulle Airport! Sure, Istanbul Airport no doubt has a lot of connecting flights through Europe and Asia, but I am sure there's more tourism in Turkey nowadays than even thirty or forty years ago.

One thing I've noticed in travelling through the Middle East on numerous occasions, is if I ever get into a conversation with an Arabic person on their favourite holiday destinations, 99% of the time they say "Istanbul." It seems to be a place where Arabic people can relax and unwind, whilst still feeling fully engaged and respectful of cultural norms.
