425,000 recognized. The actual number is probably closer to 600-700K. Almost 10% of the population of Cuba has fled in just over 2 years.

When put in historical context that figure for human emigration is absolutely stunning with numbers not seen since the Italian Diaspora.

Some people see a correlation between US sanctions on Cuba, Venezuela, and Nicaragua, and resulting damage to their economies, and the increased flow of people from these countries to the US. If true, US economic policies are the driving force behind the increased immigration problem.

The US has an open southern border since January 2021. This is an ideology issue with the current regime, far more than any economic policy.

Right on.

Would break your heart. Emigration is crap for everyone involved. And as a trend, really difficult to reverse once required.

Ireland had a population of 8M+ in the mid 1800’s. Despite growth since then and a recent decade of immigration, we’ve never returned to above 7M.

I believe a grand total of 2 people have been allowed to emigrate to Australia in the last 2 years. :lol3:
