Rawbin23 Posted September 11, 2023 Posted September 11, 2023 I have a handful of new cigars, purchased in Italy but the remainder of the stash is at least 1yr to 5+ years old. Is it worth freezing out of prevention? My room has no AC and temps are sitting 78f plus as shown in the pictures. I know many freeze when they first get cigars but haven’t found anything for my situation.
NSXCIGAR Posted September 11, 2023 Posted September 11, 2023 I'd recommend it just to be safe if your temps are going to be 70+. You really only need to freeze for 4 hours so it shouldn't take you long to get them all done. 2
BrightonCorgi Posted September 11, 2023 Posted September 11, 2023 I'd freeze all but the cigars you think you'll smoke in the next month or so. Don't want to be out of cigars while you are waiting. Put the interim cigars in a zip lock within the humidor. 3
Rhinoww Posted September 11, 2023 Posted September 11, 2023 It’s cheap insurance. Power for large freezers in Cuba has to be intermittent at best these days. A quick spin in your freezer and you are done. I like belts and suspenders so I tend to go for 24-48 hours, but less can do the trick in most instances
KCCubano Posted September 11, 2023 Posted September 11, 2023 I put all sticks in freezer for 3 days. Then 24 hrs in fridge. Like others mentioned there are rolling blackouts in Cuba. Even some of more well known shops in Havana have beetle infested boxes on their shelves. Why take a chance? My cabinet is climate controlled at 62/68.
Fuzz AI Posted September 14, 2023 Posted September 14, 2023 I wouldn't worry about your old cigars. If beetles haven't hatched by now, they never will. Though, I'd freeze all new stock before introducing into your humidor. If you have already stored the new cigars with the old, then freeze the lot just to be sure. In future, freeze and isolate new stock before storing with the old.
