El Presidente Posted April 23, 2023 Posted April 23, 2023 True or False? Romeo y Julieta and Montecristo were named after books?

Paladin865 Posted April 23, 2023 Posted April 23, 2023 Some of the Marcas were name after books that the Lectadores read to the cigar rollers.

Yes, Count of Monte Cristo was apparently a favorite among the torcedores. So technically Montecristo was named for a title of a book while RyJ was named for a play. 4
nKostyan Posted April 24, 2023 Posted April 24, 2023 This was a plot element in the story.I've read this novel. The name of the cigar brand is identical to the name of the island, but the name of the count is written in French with a hyphen "Monte-Cristo" in other languages separately "Monte Cristo".Perhaps this was done specifically by the creators of the brand to avoid Alexander Dumas copyright infringement. 1

The title has Montecristo (one word) in Spanish: https://es.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/El_conde_de_Montecristo Edit: also Italian, likely because Monte Cristo would be misunderstood as Monte and Cristo are words in those languages. (Also it is an Italian island)
Pharmacovigilant Posted April 25, 2023 Posted April 25, 2023 The names were stolen from Altadis brands. 1
