R&J was named after a play by some British dude, and Montecristo was named after Castro's favorite sandwich. It's science.

Monte 1 has notes of ham, cheese, toast, and grape jelly? 🤣🤢

Nah, it was a shitty movie with Leonardo de Crappio and Claire Danes.

Some of the Marcas were name after books that the Lectadores read to the cigar rollers.

Yes, Count of Monte Cristo was apparently a favorite among the torcedores.

So technically Montecristo was named for a title of a book while RyJ was named for a play.

This was a plot element in the story.

I've read this novel.

The name of the cigar brand is identical to the name of the island, but the name of the count is written in French with a hyphen "Monte-Cristo" in other languages separately "Monte Cristo".

Perhaps this was done specifically by the creators of the brand to avoid Alexander Dumas copyright infringement.

The title has Montecristo (one word) in Spanish:

https://es.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/El_conde_de_Montecristo

Edit: also Italian, likely because Monte Cristo would be misunderstood as Monte and Cristo are words in those languages. (Also it is an Italian island)

Sancho Panza. :ok:

Probably many others as well before the revolution.
