Pre-1930's Promotional Cigar

I recently came across this pre-1930's promotional cigar. This caught my interest in two ways, my love of local history, and also cigar history. This was most likely a promotional hand out for the Olive Stove Works of Rochester, Pennsylvania, which happens to be my hometown. The large stamp around the lower portion of the tube is an advertisement for the Olive Stove Works, which closed down in the mid-1930's. The cigar is encased in a celluloid tube, and both the cigar, and the tube are still in remarkable condition! My question; The John Hay cigar company was (and still is) located in central Pennsylvania. It also has the word "Havana" on the band. Does any one know if this brand was ever produced in Cuba for this company, or was this possibly rolled in the states with Cuban tobacco? Any input would be appreciated. Thank you!

Very cool item. As far as I can see, the "John Hay" marca was not a Pre-Revolution brand. (see https://www.cubancigarwebsite.com/brand/pre1960brands#J )

If this is from the 1930's, it is very likely that the tobacco used was Cuban.  What's difficult to say is if it a 100% Cuban tobacco cigar.  Most "Clear Havanas" aka Cuban cigars rolled outside of Cuba are not always 100% cuban tobacco (filler, binder, wrapper).

For info on such old brands, I turn to books.google.com as there are some hidden gems there.

Great find! Grew up in W-S NC home of RJ Reynolds tobacco.  Ex wife's dad was a VP. I have tons of old cigarette memorabilia. Might be worth something one day. For me tho it's about the local history.
