Edicion Posted March 24, 2022 Posted March 24, 2022 I can only find info on special releases of H. Upmann Robustos (50 x 124mm) which is "the" Robusto size. It just occurred to me that I have one which looks like a regular production in a Selección Robustos Habanos 2016 release. This has maybe been covered, but has anyone smoked one of these Robustos, how are they and how do they compare to other H. Upmanns? The closest in the H. Upmann lineup today are Connie 1 (48 rg) and Connie 2 (51 rg) so I would think they could be close? Or maybe they taste like a longer Half Corona.
NSXCIGAR Posted March 24, 2022 Posted March 24, 2022 I don't expect anyone will have much experience with these. The Seleccions are quite unpopular here and I've heard consistently negative reviews of Seleccion cigars over the years. They're pretty much for Duty Frees, gifts and tourists and not really taken too seriously. HU Robustos were also released in the 2007-2008 leather-bound case of 6 Travel Humidor release. This was the second such Travel Humidor to be released. I never heard anything about them and I have no idea if the cigars are similar. 2

Why they would get a negative review of CORO, Epi 2, D4 etc unless it's confirmed that they use inferior quality or cigars that have been weeded out? At the time, I thought that they would look better with a glass top but that's how I like my premium samplers and I did get these as a gift at some point. Hopefully some have tried any Upmann Robustos that can give some feedback.
Bijan Posted March 24, 2022 Posted March 24, 2022 @JohnS has tried the Petit Robusto sampler and another sampler, maybe the pyramids I think, but I don't think he's smoked the Robustos. It's worth asking him though! 1

This would include the HU Robustos, Cohiba Piramides, Hoyo Piramides, RyJ Piramides and all the Petit Robustos except the RyJ Petit Churchills. Oddly, Hoyo, which has a standard Petit Robustos, is excluded from the Seleccion. I would imagine the others are just standard production versions of that cigar like the CoRo and D4. The Monte Master is a joke anyway.

In 2016 these releases got a re-branding, with new cigars and packaging and on-line reviews have been kinder. Perhaps Habanos S.A realised that if you want to get new customers in this industry, perhaps they should offer a better gift product? 2 hours ago, Bijan said: @JohnS has tried the Petit Robusto sampler and another sampler, maybe the pyramids I think, but I don't think he's smoked the Robustos. It's worth asking him though! Yes, I have tried the Petit Robustos sampler and I included reviews of them in my 2021 Smoking Blog. In a word, they were pretty much sensational. I wouldn't hesitate to acquire a box of these Petit Robustos offerings if they were available based on what I smoked. 1 1
Troels Posted March 26, 2022 Posted March 26, 2022 Haven't had them, but Bought a bunch of the robusto selection boxes on Cuba back in 2011 and they where great. Seemed to me that where better quality than the ordinary production - and at 35 usd at the time, that was a fine Price for a coro, hdme2 ryj sc, special monte robusto and a partagas d4 good to hear the petit robustos is quality as Well 2
Dimmers Posted April 15, 2022 Posted April 15, 2022 I absolutely loved the travel humidor robusto series! Such a good smoke. 2
