MoeFOH Posted March 21, 2022 Posted March 21, 2022 MoeFOH's Album of the Week 🎶 Same as the movie thread, each week we're going to spotlight an album... be it a classic, new release, hidden gem, or outright turd... and open it for discussion: i.e. post up your favourite tracks, clips, lyrics, experiences if you saw live, etc... or dive deeper and give us a critique on why you think it's great, overrated, or a complete train wreck... And finally score it for us...  All contributors go into a monthly prize draw for a 3-cigar sampler! PM me with suggestions if there's an album you want to nominate for next week's discussion.  Week #1: Tracy Chapman The 1988 eponymous album that's most famous for the tracks Fast Car and Talkin' 'bout a Revolution, but generally regarded as an outstanding album overall. Give us your thoughts... Score it out of 10! 3
Puros Y Vino Posted March 22, 2022 Posted March 22, 2022 When this came out it was all over the radio. Typically not the style of music I listen to, but this is an excellent album. IMO. She's very talented and was somewhat atypical of what was being pushed as "pop music" at the time. I have heard the album front to back several times when it came out. It was refreshing to see an artist that wasn't all dolled up and marketed on visuals first, music second. I do recall that with subsequent albums her radio exposure dwindled down to nothing. At least up here in Canada. Basically if you weren't a fan and following her, you wouldn't know if she was still in the business. As for a rating, I'm going 9/10. Though it's not my favourite genre, it was an excellent record. Great voice and great songwriting stood out. 4
La_Tigre Posted March 22, 2022 Posted March 22, 2022 Enjoyed it early on. Simply cannot listen to it now. Just nerve grating.Â
KCCubano Posted March 22, 2022 Posted March 22, 2022 Never heard of it! I am still stuck in 60s and 70s music!
Chibearsv Posted March 22, 2022 Posted March 22, 2022 I'm not familiar with the entire album so I can't give it a rating yet (I'll give it a listen this week and post up an opinion) but I certainly know Fast Car. It's a pretty cool song and it was very different than the usual poppy stuff on the radio at that time. Not really a song I seek out but I won't skip through it when it pops up. 2

Though the give me one reason song from the 1995 album got some airplay and the album did somewhat ok, nothing at all from anything after that.
