Popular Post 99call Posted April 24, 2021 Popular Post Posted April 24, 2021 Captains hat, the 'I don't give a f*** cigarette hanging off the lip, and a singlet........= LEGEND Love these images, the cream of the crop, from the cabinet makers in the 1950s? Despite all the desperate gimmicks, you could easily argue the level of craftsmanship has fallen year by year since these guys left the bench. 15 1

But, I have to disagree regarding quality. The Guys at Humidores Habana are still cranking out some amazing stuff today. Far more ornate than anything in the 50s or 60s. They moved into a new (to them) factory in the Diez de Octubre Neighborhood a few years ago, I was lucky enough to take a tour in April of 2018. They make a lot of the special humidors for the Habanos and Partagas Festivals as well as special consignments. Most of it from Old reclaimed wood. 17 1
Habana Mike Posted April 24, 2021 Posted April 24, 2021 Pretty cool. Both the old and the new. Always wanted to get by the factory, have friends in the neighborhood so maybe next time whenever that may be.... Love the last picture in the original post. Looks like it holds 64 50 cabs! One a day that'd last you almost 10 years. Maybe 2-3 for me 2 1

Popular Post Nino Posted April 25, 2021 Popular Post Posted April 25, 2021 I have known Jose Ernesto Aguilera, the artist behind Humidores Habana, from his early beginnings in the basement of the concrete building in Vibora Park where he still has his workroom and where you cannot stand as the ceiling is too low. It all started well before 2008 with the Punch Humidor commissioned by a good friend of mine, Jimmy Ng from Singapore. http://flyingcigar.de/smoking-cigars/200805-punch-custom-humidor/ He became rightly well known for his excellent works of art and went on to produce humidors for the gala dinner auction at the Habanos Festival. http://flyingcigar.de/startseite/visiting-humidor-artist-jose-ernesto-aguilera/ Here he is with the late Simon Chase at the auction. Very happy he has achieved his dream and still socially contributes so much to his neighbourhood and gives so many young people a chance to learn a good trade. A very humble, passionate personality with a great social & community spirit ! Here some of the humidors from Ernesto that I cherish. 12 3

I know a great deal of people enjoy the one off, gimmicky pieces but to me they sort of follow the principle of Jeff Goldblum in Jurassic Park i.e "Your Scientists Were So Preoccupied With Whether Or Not They Could, They Didn’t Stop To Think If They Should" I like the retro stuff they are still making, but all the one-off, show piece I find pretty horrid But thats just me, I'm sure their are many more people out their that love them.
