Popular Post Kaptain Karl Posted February 1, 2021 Popular Post Posted February 1, 2021 This is my 7th from my first box. And what a box it's been so far! Opens with a deep doughy pastry with salted butter. The initial blast from this box has been varied. A few have been spice bombs, some have had luscious mouthfeel, while this has the smoothest, richest flavor and mouthfeel yet. I actually agree with El Prez that these resemble Sir Winnies. While they’re not quite a match in flavor profile, they have that ability to open up with a mouth punch of luscious flavor and keep on on punching like Mike Tyson. Half way through the first third I hit the first bit of poor construction from this box, a knot that I just have to work around, 2/3: Still working around the knot but the flavor is still pastry and salted butter. Sometimes complexity makes a cigar great, yet sometimes the complexity brings in unwanted flavors or turns away from brilliance. This cigar is staying right in that perfect flavor wheelhouse and I hope it doesn’t shift on me! As soon as I typed that, butter moved to the forefront. The butter brings out some more baking spices through the retro as well. Now buttered pastry. Of course I mention the lack of complexity and the cigar gods decided to have a good laugh at my expense. Now it’s a buttery cinnamon. Delicious yet hilarious??♂️ 3/3: My pup came outside to play so my attention was lost, then when the band came off the wrapper exploded. All in all, this proved my love for the Coloniales. They open swinging for the fences and keep on swinging. This cigar was basically a French pastry shop. Yet another fantastic experience! A-/92 points. 29 1

I have had individual Coloniales that are like this. i.e drenched in butter, cake like, and very indulgent. Like you, I would give the examples like this 92 points everyday of the week. The only reason I wanted to comment on this thread, is that i've had quite a lot of very woody, (specifically sandlewood) examples of this cigar. Examples like this, have the ability to move beyond the 92 and punch way above. My belief is that 'blend-wise' the Coloniales is the Des Dieux of the Trinidad Line. Anyway ....however they perform, the usual result is excellence of some form......a great cigar

I think this box has been extremely ON with the indulgent pastry flavors, yet I can see how the wood can dominate the blend as it's happened with this box at some times, but luckily didnt dominate the cigar. If these were all wood bombs I'd be running the other way!

Ha, I get you, cigars that are overpoweringly dry and astringent, are ultimately not enjoyable. What I was getting at, is when balanced, these added notes lead to perfect balance and greatness. For example Des Dieux - Rich leathery vanilla pods + white tannic aromatic wood = greatness Coloniales - Buttery pastry/Donuts + sandalwood = greatness I would say that if you subtract the astringency from these cigars they just become very good, and not great.............but thats just me 2
Goodfortune Posted February 1, 2021 Posted February 1, 2021 Thanks for the review Karl. After seeing you and many others praise these, I think I am going to take a dive on a box. I love the Trinidad marca, but surprisingly have never had a coloniales. 1

For me, these are a perfect addition to the regular rotation. I love the vitola, flavor, and the price is just within the high end for my regular rotation, perfect for when I'm looking for more of an experience without breaking into the high end stuff. There isnt another PC sized vitola that smacks you with flavor quite like these! (I'm hoping when I get some years on my Siglo II box they'll be comparable) 1
mprach024 Posted February 2, 2021 Posted February 2, 2021 Great review! Great pictures ?. I’ve had Coloniales in my regular rotation since mid 2000s. They struggled for a while but all of my recent experiences have been stellar, some of the best I’ve had in a decade plus. If anything they might be getting a little too much power and fullness to them, I really enjoy their nuance when they stay under or around medium. Still they have been excellent.
Meklown Posted February 2, 2021 Posted February 2, 2021 Nice review and stronk selfie game! Remember to look at your wife the way you do in the 3rd picture ?
Lomey Posted February 2, 2021 Posted February 2, 2021 Great review, thanks! I've never tried one, but have a box on the way and can't wait to try one this Spring when it warms up.
Shrimpchips Posted February 2, 2021 Posted February 2, 2021 Great review! I’ve got a box resting now, but this and other reviews from recent stock make me want to get another to squirrel away. Thoughts on aging potential of your box? I’ve had some Reyes that were BSM box codes that were awesome, so hoping to snag BSM Coloniales as well.

Hard part is having them last that long because they approachable. 1
