Por Larranaga Petit Corona LGR AGO 19 (49SRW)

Recommended Posts

Rested at 62RH 68F for 2 months 27 days, 1 year 2 months box age. Crazy plugged after the cut, but some stabbing from both ends with a PerfecDraw helps open it up.

First third: opens nice and creamy with a touch of sweetness and spice on the finish. The sweetness has almost a chalky texture. There's a nice caramel aroma in the smoke coming off the foot of the cigar, but not on the palate or retrohale. Run into a couple bits of bitterness and ammonia, but the sweetness takes on a brown sugar character.

Middle third: smoke off the foot has picked up a nice sweet donut aroma, but the flavor is mostly cedar and a bit of earthiness with a touch of sweetness. Halfway through some caramel notes start to come through, but the cigar is leaving an odd waxy feeling on the palate.

Last third: the donuts finally appear on the palate and retrohale, and there's a bit of twang on the finish, but there's also some increasing harshness and the cigar starts to burn hot. The last inch seems to be a bit wet, and the cigar has trouble staying lit without constant puffing.

Overall: not bad, and amidst the harshness and earthiness there are some hints of what's to come with age, but at this stage it's reminiscent of a lot of non-Cuban cigars I have, if not worse, and it seems like a waste to dip into these this soon, as I believe Ken has mentioned in an FOHtv review. Definitely glad this was one of the first Cuban boxes I picked up to get a headstart on the aging. 86/100

I appreciated this review because I have a 2017 box doing the exact same things to me. Believe it’s TOS ABR 17. Flashes of greatness the all of a sudden these little disappointments. Gave one to my brother in law a couple months ago and he enjoyed it however

Nice review. I have gone through about half a box of LGR OCT 19’s and oddly find myself living the last third. Def agree with you on the sweet cedar flavor in the first half or so. Maybe being a very tight roll hurt your last third.

I’m with @philipl and @ReturnFreeRisk, my boxes are nearly two years old and while I get flashes of brilliance in many of the first thirds, they’re always quite tough and tumble by the end. If those flashes are a sign of things to come, I’ll be glad I’m sitting on a couple boxes.

I’m smoking through a cab from the TOS 17 code. It seems like out of every 5, 1 sucks, 3 are good and 1 is superb!

I have a LGR17 cab of these. First cab ever, and if they don't get better likely the last. Little if any caramel. Just straight up toasted tobacco flavor, nothing extremely complex or interesting. I'm starting to think these are over-rated by many folks.

My box has had a lot of sweetness, cream, and graham cracker flavors. I wouldn’t touch your box for another year! Mine wasn’t good when I got it and really opened up this year.

Agree. I've had several cabs going back to 02. Some have displayed youth longer than others.

The last third had the best and the worst of the cigar for me. It was where the donut dough flavor finally came through. It's definitely possible the tight draw hurt, and will probably give one or two more a try in the next few months to see how representative this one was.
