benfica_77 Posted July 1, 2020 Posted July 1, 2020 Cigar Journal: La Casa del Habano Partagás Suspends Activity. https://www.cigarjournal.com/la-casa-del-habano-partagas-suspends-activity/ One of the world’s most representative cigar shops is suspending its activities indefinitely as of today due to a partial collapse of the old Partagás factory last Sunday. It is well known that the building has been in dilapidated condition for years. For this reason, the factory activities at this iconic site were suspended at the end of 2011. At the time, a remodeling plan had been set but the repair work has never in fact begun. The plans for the building have been changing over the years, as the old factory was first supposed to resume activities after the repairs. Plans then changed from the site to house the Cuban Tobacco Museum to becoming a hotel and then back to being the Cuban Tobacco Museum. The truth is that neither plan seemed to be effectively set in motion, and now the recent events will definitely force action to be taken. The collapse at the rear part of the factory left the area uncovered and the inside part of the building is now completely exposed to the elements. No one was reportedly hurt, as the area has been deactivated for some time. The building’s general condition seems to be deteriorating and it is no longer safe to continue activities at the shop because the future is uncertain. Caracol, the Cuban chain store that runs the La Casa del Habano Partagás, has had plans to move the shop to a new location since the beginning of 2019, but not much has been done in this direction. Due to the plans changing frequently and little action having been taken, the cigar community is looking apprehensive and hoping that this representative factory will now get the attention it deserves. 1
NSXCIGAR Posted July 1, 2020 Posted July 1, 2020 What a shame for one of the most iconic buildings in Havana.

Habana Mike Posted July 3, 2020 Posted July 3, 2020 They're reopening in the Hotel Manzana Kempinski! Probably way before any of us get back there.

From the pictures posted it is across the street from the Kempinski on O'Reilly St. It's about 25 yards from the Hotel Kempinski, on the corner of O'Reilly and Bernaza. I think there was a paladar there. Diagonally opposite the Floridita on that little square with the statue where taxis pull up. For a cigar shop it's a better location, far more tourists than the old spot (when they come back). They'll have to up their orders of Guantanameras 10X! There is competition in the area, 2 shops in the Kempinski. I know that many Kempinski residents barely leave the hotel. And the Casa del Ron y Tabaco beside the Floridita, which is a decent little shop, good rum selection. The manager, Israel Hernandez, looks gruff but he's a very nice guy. He can't be too happy with the move. Either way, I wish them best of luck. Some very nice people in that shop. I had a lot of fun in the old Partagas shop but that back room could get very uncomfortable when busy. Personally, selfishly, it'll save me a bit of time in Havana. Most days I end up making arrangements to meet people in Partagas. Then I find myself ensconced in a bar near the new location (Monserrate, El Pachanka, even Floridita etc.) and thinking the last thing I want is a 15 minute walk in the heat and diesel fumes, playing chicken with the traffic. It was too short a trip for a taxi really. Now it'll be much easier to get off a bar stool! 3
LLC Posted July 3, 2020 Posted July 3, 2020 That will be a good location and as said more convenient.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
