The Corona Gorda Crush (well, I still can’t think of a better name) – Cohiba Siglo IV (HRS Mar 19) – Monkey 47 Sloe Gin.

To be honest, I have used this gin with a number of cigars as it is proving an allrounder of sublime ability. In fact, I really struggle to think of another individual drink which has worked so well with such a wide array of cigars. 

The cigar is a legend – no one needs me to tell them that. The Cohiba Siglo IV (HRS Mar 19). And it more than lived up to that reputation. As I mentioned in Rob’s last video, it was as good as, if not better, than any Sig IV I can ever recall. If this is current form, then load up! 

Looked immaculate and there was a firm draw. It was rich and dense from the very start. Honey crept in. A hint of milk chocolate. Richness here. We then moved into creamy coffee, cinnamon and citrus touches. Dense and rich, it continued. For me, this was smoking as a little fuller and richer than most Cohiba. The flavours got darker and (yes, a most overused word here) richer as we progressed. An absolute cracker. I thought it was worth 96. It was that good.

Great article. Siglo IV is my favorite Corona Gorda which is also my favorite size cigar. Does that make it my favorite cigar? Not sure about that but it is certainly right up there among all cigars for me.

You shocked me the first time I saw you mention pairing gin with cigars. I was raised on the belief that clear liquors mask the cigar profile.

I had to post this time because I'm headed to a friend's house this weekend and he only stocks and offers gin. Do you think all gins pair well with cigars, even those with botanicals?

i suppose first point is that the sloe gin is anything but clear, but understand what you mean. 

i think sometimes circumstances contribute to the match, more than on other occasions. so when i have an outside, near the beach, summer arvo cigar, a good gin is an ideal drink and that helps it work, whereas if it was a winter's evening, much less so. 

australia alone has more than 500 different gins. some will work far better than others. the sloe gin is a very different and much sweeter style of gin than many. gins can range from austere and almost neutral to wild and weird - take the shiraz gins we see. 

so i guess that leads to the answer. not all gins and not all the time, but certainly some gins sometimes.

I agree, the Corona Gorda always seems to hit the spot for me, the Siglo IV has been smoking incredibly for me!

@Ken Gargett how much age do you generally like on Siglo IVs? I noticed this is a relatively young example in your review, I personally don't let them age too long because I can't control myself ?! I didn't know if you saw benefits from waiting, and if so, would you let us know?

in a perfect world, i would have stocks of the sig iv to ensure i could smoke them young and aged. i think both have heaps to offer. i would strongly suggest, if you can, put a box away for 5 to 10 and see what you think. then you can make your own decision. but have plenty to enjoy along the way.
