Cuban Maduro Cigars and ageing

Recommended Posts

Hi Just wanted your opinion on ageing of the Maduro line, either Partagas or Cohiba.
I bought a box of Partagas Maduro No.1 in 17 with a 17 box date and enjoyed its intense chocolate dimension. I forgot about the box until last week when I tried another 2 from it, and both had lost their vibrancy with the chocolate notes barely there.
Do Maduro in general not age well?

 Thanks

I think we're all in the same boat. Partagas Maduro had only been around for less than 5 years. Most of the initial releases were smoked up pretty quickly (supply was very low from 17 to early 18).

Whoever is smoking some of the early releases now could tell you but I would guess there aren't too many people sitting on early boxes.

I never thought Cohiba Maduro 5 would age well.  I have been proved wrong.  Adam brought some 2010 aged Genios to the deck back in march and they were exceptional. mix between a Siglo VI and a light chocolate thick shake.

Well it looks like I should have invested in Cohiba rather than Partagas Maduro-I know now though ?

On topic, I have some '16 Secretos. When would be the 'expected' sweet spot for them in aging?

If I go off the 2007 Secretos I've had I would say in the 8 to 12 year period.

I think JohnS has nailed it.

The Secretos has some elbows young that Genios and Magicos rarely possess.  Secretos are also a stronger cigar. They benefit from extended time down.

Thank you very much, gents. I appreciate your continued insight immensely. These Secretos were from the earliest of FOH auctions and will just have to be pretty and sleep!

I’m having a hard time holding them for the 30 day resting period so aging is a bit out of my league

I feel your pain, seems like the first couple of years into this hobby require great patience. Or very deep pockets... ?
