benfica_77 Posted January 25, 2020 Posted January 25, 2020 I have a box of siglo VI UAO APR 19 that every time I open the box i'm blown away....it's a kaleidoscope of smells....barnyard...cinnamon and honey. By far my most aromatic cigars. I do have a psp box of MSU BBFs that are quite aromatic as well but are not in the same league. What's your most aromatic cigars in your collection and when you smoked them did they taste just as good as they smelled? I'm curious to see if there is a strong or weak correlation between smell and taste. Cheers! PS ...This could make a good FOHrensics episode.
Islandboy Posted January 25, 2020 Posted January 25, 2020 In general, I find a cigar that has an excellent scent at cold usually translates to a good, aromatic smoking experience. But not always. My latest aromatic experience has been with Party 898’s - the wonderful smell of exotic spices blows me away every time I open the box, and the few that I’ve smoked have been equally aromatic. I’d also say the new Taino Formosa offers a similar aromatic experience, but more on the funky barnyard side.
Wookie Posted January 25, 2020 Posted January 25, 2020 I'm not sure cold aroma to smoking aroma has any sort of linear relation for me. But I do feel that trinidads in general are the most aromatic whilst smoking. The nutmeg/cloves in a good trini are something I get from no other cigar. Second to this are the floral flavors I get in RA. Then vanilla in good bolivar. Cohiba are more enigmatic to me....sometimes vanilla/whiskey sweet and other times more savory. But when you say aromatic I'm thinking floral or baker spices.
bbguardsp Posted January 25, 2020 Posted January 25, 2020 PL Montecarlo at a casino a couple months back is engrained in my memory as the best. My girlfriend walking around next to me was like "that's smells amazing." Unfortunately I'm terrible at identifying aromas compared to tastes.

However, if we're talking about "great smelling at cold," I would say that in my experience "that smells good in my nose" has always foreshadowed a great smoking experience. The opposite has not been true though. I have had a mixed smoking experience when the aroma at cold was unremarkable (or hard to detect). Some cigars just seem to blossom from box to torch. Perhaps age and humidity play a role that make initial aroma an unreliable predictor. In any event, I've learned not to be pessimistic when I don't get much out of the initial whiffs.
Jbhunter223 Posted January 25, 2020 Posted January 25, 2020 Bought a box of QDO coronas early last year, the seller shipped them vacuum sealed. The smell was intense upon opening the bag, smoked one right away that day and it was so good! After letting them rest in the humi the smell is not as intense, but have not smoked another yet to compare. Might be something to the vacuum seal?
Chibearsv Posted January 26, 2020 Posted January 26, 2020 Diplomaticos for me. I love the aroma and open the boxes regularly to get a whiff. They taste great smoking too
Diabolicalpherpher Posted January 28, 2020 Posted January 28, 2020 I have a box of JL2 and Epi2 that is really aromatic and they smoke better than the non aromatic counter part. I whole heartedly believe good aroma equates to good flavors. 1
Lunettesman Posted January 28, 2020 Posted January 28, 2020 My favorite is when i open my 50 cab Lusitania!!!

They're still VERY young, so the two that I've forced myself to smoke were just OK, and got harsh fast, but it's one that I want to keep checking in on. Same with a box of HdM Petit Robusto actually.
