Anyone ever get a box or two that have almost sticky wrappers? I have two boxes in my collection that have these funky feeling almost “grippy” wrappers. The recent pcc aged uppman 2 box actually has these wrappers.

anyone know what this is? Haven’t smoked any of my grippy humid cigars yet. Wondering if it’s a bad thing or a thing that doesn’t really matter.

it’s not my humidification because I only have two boxes that feel like this

Oh, it's definitely plume. I'd say somewhere between indisputably, and absolutely. If there is one thing I know to be a fact, it's plume. And because I know it to be fact, I don't even need science.

You sir, have an abundance of plume on those sticks. Very plumey. A lotta plume. Congrats!

Could it be the glue that is used during rolling? I’ve have stick parts on the cigar but never the whole cigar.

Are both boxes aged, or just the Upmann?  Maybe it’s the oil?

both aged. other box is slr asia pacifico. Dont think it the oil. but maybe?

Sounds like someone was a little too excited when they opened up that box of sticks.

Drybox one and see if it still exists. Maybe it's something in the medium it was packed in. If dryboxing doesn't evaporate it, it's mixed in with the oils and there isnt much you can do aside from burning it off. You could also cut one open and do some further investigations. I personally would have just smoked one and if it was terrible I'd come here to complain.

Lol fair enough. I’ll report back after smoking one. Actually I have smoked from the slr box and I don’t remember them feeling strange when I first got the box. Maybe it is my humidor. Just strange that it’s the only box in there that feels like that

Have you tried slapping a hygrometer in that section of your humidor/next to those cigars?  I'm assuming you don't own a Humidimeter™, but I've been hearing a lot about them... who knows, you might want to pick one up.

I contacted them on FB. I have a moisture meter for woodworking so I was concerned this was a rebranded tool. The probes are a good inch apart on my wood one which is why I contacted them. They state that they are good for a 36ring cigar so it is different than the $10 one you can get at harbor freight. Lots of people claim inaccuracies. Their FB page states that a calibration kit is about to come out for it. I think if you were to get a reference number off of a known perfect smoking cigar, you could reliably gauge any cigar by referencing that number. I plan to buy one. I just have too many sticks  chewing up all that money in the near future. For $26 what the hell... It would come in handy when you receive mail order sticks to see if they were properly stored as to cross that provider off the known good seller list if they were not. It would also come in handy to troubleshoot rarities such as OPs issue in this thread.

I'm surprised there isn't already a calibration tool or at least some calibration method readily available, but you're right... as long as the reading doesn't shift drastically, you'd just need to find a a cigar that smokes perfectly and then look for that reading in the future.  Of course, it would probably be worth taking some notes on different categories just to see if different vitolas or tobacco types perform differently.  A lot of people seem to want separate 'high' humidity storage and 'low' humidity storage for their CCs and NCs.  I have found it useful to lower the RH for the CCs that are 'on deck' to cut down on dry boxing, but I find 65RH generally delivers the desired results for storage (for me anyway).  It would be nice to test individual cigars though, especially ROTT.  There's always the odd anomaly too.  I recently had a cigar suddenly sprout a veritable metric s**t-ton of mold after being stored in stable conditions in a lock-lid jar with 65RH boveda and a handful of other cigars that had (and still have) zero signs of mold.  I threw it in the trash, but if I had a humidimeter I would have stuck it for sure.

Took one of the cigars out there it in my travel humidor and after a few days the cigar feels normal. Maybe it’s my Humidor. I’ll light it up at some point this week. Hopefully it smokes well ?‍♂️

There is a calibration tool for the Humidimeter: https://cigarmedics.com/product/humidimeter-calibration-standard/

There we go.  Seems crazy somebody would market an implement of measurement--something that needs to be somewhat at least somewhat accurate and precise to be of any use--without also making a calibration tool available.  And if it wasn't available all along it should have been.

Not sure when the Humidimeter came out, but the calibration tool has been available since at least early November according to this write up: https://tinytimblog.blogspot.com/2019/11/cigar-gadgets-humidimeter.html

That checks out.  I just looked at their facebook page and they announced the 'calibration standard' in mid October ('coming soon', without ever updating to say it was available), so it probably came out around then.  Looks like the page was created in July, so they apparently didn't wait all that long.

I've got a cab of Partagas shorts that have invisible glue on them. Whenever I smoke one they stick to my lips and sticky to the touch near the head. Must be the cap glue but none is visible.
