Ken Gargett Posted November 5, 2019 Posted November 5, 2019 'Blinded by the Light'. best film ever. i defy anyone to watch this film without the biggest grin of their life for almost the entire time, or with dry eyes. it is so much fun. such a feel-good cracking film. basically based on a true story of a young pakistani kid in england in the late 80s (thatcher time, time of race riots etc - also the time i was living over there so certainly rang bells with me) who wants to be a writer but fighting with family, racists, other kids etc. then discovers bruce. there is plenty of other music in the film (sadly) but obviously a lot of bruce (including a version of i'll stand by you never before released). it is a simple film, granted not likely to be seen as some cinematic masterpiece like 'Roma' - and has there ever been a more boring cesspool of a waste of time on celluloid for tosser film critics with their heads up their bums? but if the job of a movie is to entertain and provide pleasure, you will never do better. many hours later, i am still grinning like an idiot. i defy anyone on this planet to watch this film and not feel so much better about the world. if you can, you are made of stone. if it does not win the oscar for best film, then we have definitive proof that there is no god. 1 1
bpm32 Posted November 5, 2019 Posted November 5, 2019 I don’t know how Star Wars would sound with mostly Springsteen songs on the soundtrack, Ken, but you might like it better than what Disney is putting out right now.

Ken Gargett Posted November 5, 2019 Author Posted November 5, 2019 one thing - that song, 'i'll stand by you', was apparently originally written for the first harry potter movie. if only they'd used it. the movie might have been a success!! 1
Fuzz Posted November 5, 2019 Posted November 5, 2019 Did they use the Springsteen version of "Blinded By The Light" for the film, or the far superior Manfred Mann cover? 4

Does Bruce always mumble the lyrics? I guess that's why Manfred Mann's version was a number 1 on the Billboard Top 100, and Bruce's was a complete flop, not even rating on the music charts. Props to him for writing it, but sorry Ken, his version doesn't compete. 2 1

Silverstix Posted November 5, 2019 Posted November 5, 2019 waiting for this to come up on Netflix, didn't get a chance to see it in theaters unfortunately. Check out 'Joker' too it was a great movie with some terrific acting. I watched it with headphones on and The River playing, probably why I liked it so much

Hate to say this Ken, but as good as Bruce is, I always much preferred the Manfred Mann cover. I really like the organ sound and the guitar in this version. And yes, the lyrics are also clearer

BoliDan Posted November 6, 2019 Posted November 6, 2019 Ken, you showed this preveiw a few months ago. How much did you get coaxed into investing in this this movie, and can we help you in other way than watch this shite?

ha_banos Posted November 14, 2019 Posted November 14, 2019 Ok. Having watched this, and I don't live far from Luton and I'm old enough to remember some of the 80's. I still say you were a tad over enthused in your view of this movie @Ken Gargett
Mikeltee Posted November 15, 2019 Posted November 15, 2019 Is this a joke or something? Normally I would have turned this after school special crap off within 5 minutes, but considering the source, I am now 20 minutes into this poor excuse for entertainment and I am about to slit my wrists. I'll give it 10 more minutes. The Godfather??? Seriously??? 1
