Viva Vegas Posted October 26, 2019 Author Posted October 26, 2019 Sad how it is ending after only 5 or 6 years of travel to Cuba. I can see it all ending soon. I have a flight set up for Feb, who knows if it will go.

Hammer Smokin' Posted October 26, 2019 Posted October 26, 2019 sucks not to be able to get into cuba from 'merica, but at least you can get cubans delivered to your door without taxes/border/duty/raping. I think, if given the option, I'd close our doors to travel to Cuba, but allow Cuban cigars into our county without 150% import charges.
Popular Post Viva Vegas Posted October 26, 2019 Author Popular Post Posted October 26, 2019 It's not just about cigars, love Cuba and the people. Yes rum and cigars too 5 1
Hammer Smokin' Posted October 26, 2019 Posted October 26, 2019 I'd wager to bet the average american on this board spends more dollars on cuban cigars imported than spent directly IN Cuba on vacation. no?
La_Tigre Posted October 26, 2019 Posted October 26, 2019 We will see Havana excluded by mid year unless I miss the guess. 1
Webbo Posted October 27, 2019 Posted October 27, 2019 Was at a party in Pittsburgh a couple of years ago and brought over from the UK a box of RASS for my friend for letting me stay with them. A lot of nice people there but what amazed me was that a lot of the people there ( many white, middle class) had a general view on Cuba, which was so negative and based around the theory that “Cuba hates America and the American way of life”. As a European and having visited Cuba a few times I was very surprised by this. I assume that many Americans who have no interest in CC’s simply know nothing about the place (non I spoke to had ever been or wanted to go) it’s history or it’s people. Perhaps I am wrong but the strong impression I got was that they did not consider Cuba to be friends of the US and therefore of no interest. They all wanted the cigars but with an attitude of curiosity for forbidden fruit, they where not really big cigar smokers with a couple of exceptions. Is this a widely held opinion of Cuba from the average American or was I just unlucky?

One of the things that shocked me as a kid was when I saw Michael Palin’s awesome documentary about Hemingway, and the Cubans had lovingly maintained Hemingway’s house, his boat, and even his hotel room in the Ambos Mundos. I had simply assumed that being communists they would have wiped out the past Pol Pot-style and would have certainly destroyed anything to do with the US. 1

That did not seem to be true for me when I went to Cuba. Why else would you have fake McDonald's? I also saw a teenager wearing a pristinely white pair of (fake) Nike sneakers. Then he spotted a speck of dirt on it and he promptly took out a handkerchief and tried to use some spit to clean that dirt out. That small action showed me that the general population in Cuba don't hate the US as much as the average American thinks they do. 1
