96 members have voted

  1. 1. If you could get rid of one of these somewhat disconcerting trends in public behaviour/display, which would it be?

    • The proliferation of Full-On Hipster Beards (FOHB)
    • The universal, Crazy Mobile Phone Obsession (CMPO)

50/50 dives into some sociological research and reform this week. @Colt45 recently posed the question (jokingly) on which is the greater public plague of humanity: Hipster Beards or Mobile Phone Obsession (at one time or another, I've probably been guilty of both, possibly simultaneously, so this is a tough one for me... thanks Ross!:rotfl:)

You know the drill: read the question, vote on the poll, elaborate in the thread if you so desire. Voting participants go into the draw for an El Pres sampler! - Drawn next Wednesday (Aus local time). :spotlight:

All about 50/50...

50/50 is a weekly poll where we find out whether or not some serious bones of contention questions can be finally be buried or will instead remain above ground as a fleshy 50/50 debate... you know, such weighty issues as these...

If given no other option:

do you prefer Hunnicutt or Trapper in M*A*S*H?

Connery or Moore as Bond?

Apple or PC?

Smooth or Crunchy peanut butter?

do you prefer wearing men's or women's underwear?

 Sacrificing chickens or virgins?

...that sort of standard fare.

Vote in the poll and further bolster your standpoint in the thread below if you wish. Poll Votes are public and there's a couple of sticks up for grabs for participants.

Also, PM me Polls that you'd like me to conduct on 50/50 and there'll be a prize for those we decide to use.

Beard doesn’t do anything for or against for me but the family all on the cell phone not even acknowledging one another’s existence scares me for years to come. Not to mention driving and someone texting and not paying attention and on and on and on.

I had to shave my beard, it's seems being clean shaven is counter culture and abnormal now lol.  But the cell phone thing ... not good.  Definitely CMPO

Not even close-the cell phone culture is beyond ridiculous.

Hipsters (and their beards) are annoying, but phone obsession speaks to a deeper social malady. Beards can be shaven more simply than social skills can be taught. I voted to sacrifice the phone people. We can get rid of the hipsters later.

Pedestrians crossing streets while staring at their cell phones is a pet peeve of mine.    Urban driving is tough enough for us old-timers.  ?

Get rid of the hipsters first, lol! The phones will follow. I voted for getting rid of the beards.

Ditto.  I can't have a serious conversation with some of these guys (or girls if that's how they identify).  I'm not talking about the regular beards, but the ones that are teased out to obnoxious lengths.  And now I'm seeing mustaches with the waxed curly-Q ends...

Raise your kids right. Limit use of electronics.  Don't worry if non-family want to waste their lives on their phones.

But this must come to end!!!

Phones so many accidents are caused on the roads . Real blight on society mobile phone addiction

CMPO is truly annoying in crowded urban places. I have gone from trying to avoid anyone who's eyes are glued to their screens, to simply walking straight through them (all 6'4 of me)

too many idiots always on their phone, especially driving. so many annoying habits people have with phones too, in all aspects of life. hipster beards are just fun to make fun of, never been annoyed or pissed off by one.

A hipster beard may not have annoyed/pissed you off, but what about the hipster the hipster beard is attached to?

A tough one. Hipster beards and everything that go with it are pretty bad, but the way mobile phones have taken over people’s lives is awful. Seoul have put warning signs up to remind people to look up from their phones when crossing the road! CMPHO to go

My wife's angle on the hipster beard is " why would to want to look like an Edwardian rapist?" She's not a fan...
I just think they invariably look like fakes, stuck on and to be removed at the end of the day.

Beards in my mind are a sign of individualism and personal style whether its hipster or not. Seeing a family out to dinner that are all on their phones and not talking to one another is a true travesty.

Put away the clippers, the beards have been given the green light! But toss your phone in the trash... So says the poll result of 82 -14. The idea has crossed my mind once or twice. But, of course, it's all about managing behaviour with communication devices--they should be used sparingly, for their convenience, not as dominant activity in your life... for my two-bob's worth. ;)

Anyhow, to the winner of the random sampler draw - that goes to @elousv !!

Congrats!

Please PM your details to me @MoeFOH and we'll arrange dispatch of your prize.

Thanks to all who participated. Next poll will be up soon!
