ryancuad Posted August 11, 2019 Posted August 11, 2019 What say you?. Conn A vs Royal Robusto, at the 4-5 years of age mark, not fresh. I've been a RR guy for the last 3 years and haven't given the Conn A much thought
Notsocleaver Posted August 11, 2019 Posted August 11, 2019 I go back and forth. The Royal Robusto has had some poorer runs, but when the quality is good they are fantastic. A little more zing to them, where the Connie A is smoother. Why not both? 1
shrink Posted August 11, 2019 Posted August 11, 2019 These are two of my favorite cigars. I am smoking from 2014 and 2015 stock. I smoke more Royal Robustos, and find them to have a bit more flavor, body and spice than the A's. But the A's are a more refined and smoother smoke. And they're sweeter. It's a matter of mood. But you can't go wrong with either one. H. Upmann's at their best. 3
joeypots Posted August 11, 2019 Posted August 11, 2019 Just because the RR comes in a box of ten. Both are very good.
Tstew75 Posted August 11, 2019 Posted August 11, 2019 I experienced sub-par boxes of RRs from 15/16 ad for that reason have never gone back. I have multiple boxes of Connie As & never had a box I didn't love.
BuzzArd Posted August 11, 2019 Posted August 11, 2019 A’s. No contest at my humidor. And i have 4 boxes of RRs and NO A’S!!! ??♂️
Popular Post NSXCIGAR Posted August 12, 2019 Popular Post Posted August 12, 2019 Hard to think of blends so different within a marca. Upmann is the king of this IMO. There are two distinct sides to this brand--the shortbread, cream and toasted tobacco side and the licorice, leather and espresso side. Connie 1 & A are the former; Mag 46 and RR the latter. Some models kind of straddle the line a bit. Mag 54, No. 2, Tubos models. I just have no luck with the "darker" side. Flavors just always seem murky and inconsistent to me. On the other hand, I love the "lighter" side of Upmann. Connie A is great but I just seem to be chain smoking Connie 1s this last year. Tremendous value, very consistent and just hits the spot. I have one in my hand as I write this. I've never had a good RR and I've tried them since 12. In fact, I recently had a 12 and while it was a bit more tame, I just didn't get it. Add to that the terrible price for them that seems to keep climbing and I've relegated them to the ignore bin. 6
Islandboy Posted August 12, 2019 Posted August 12, 2019 Connie A’s for me. Couldn’t agree more with @NSXCIGAR's assessment. I’m a huge fan of the H Upmann baking spices, shortbread and caramel that I find in the A. The RR is much darker...I usually get some rich stone fruit out of them, but hardly any of those wonderful baking spices.

I really love the Connie 1s and As and want to find something a little smaller that falls in the same category. HUHC remind me more of the Mag 46s or RR than a smaller Connie 1. I haven't tried any of the Tubos though.

Mag 50 is a total outlier only because it's much milder than any other Upmann IMO. I would place it in the "darker" category only because I don't find any of the shortbread/baking spice and sweet cream in there. So a double whammy for me. I'm still not sure how I would categorize the SW either. SW definitely has the shortbread/baking spice in there but I find it less "sweet" in that area than the Connie A. It really builds in terms of leather and espresso towards the end. It may be the best of both worlds. 1
