Popular Post CaptainQuintero
Dug out a beastie that seems pretty much extinct nowadays sadly. The Corona Gorda is/was a great size when you fancied something a little more easy going than a very thin ring gauge cigar but didn't want to start straying into the robusto territory. I'm trying to think what is even left of the vitola, the siglo 4 perhaps? I think the Epicure no.1 and JL Selection no.1 are gone now? Ah well, Habanos knows best right? Draw is fine, cold flavour is a little tangy tobacco, possibly a hint of peach? Cigar bursts into life straight away, I think it's been waiting for it's chance to shine! Straight off it's an immediate hit of peach and plum, one of the few times that an unlit aromatic has shown a reflection of the lit cigar for me. There's a hint of cedar but it's hiding at the back, this is just a fruit train. Smoke is billowing out in great velvety clouds, lovely stuff! Second third and the draw is keeping up it's end, nice to see for a change! The waves of well ripened, verging on over-ripe peach is continuing unabated. The plummy darkness is just lingering, enough to make things interesting but it's not coming to the forefront. A definite floral perfume note creeps in. Always staying on the mild side in body, but full of flavour. Final third and everything darkens down into a syrupy honey concentrate; that intense peach still carrying the load and the plum just adding a sharp tang at the end. Sweetness has just increased throughout the cigar which is a nice change. 93/100 would have liked to see the floral note come out a little more but this was a ruthless display of peach dominance. A rare example of perfect construction, the burn didn't miss a step the whole way. Great change of pace as it isn't very common to find such a peach dominant core nowadays, possibly the Upmann Mag 50 but it didn't have that cloying sickly nature that I find in them.

RDB
That looks and sounds great. How I wish there were more ERDM vitolas left! Btw the JLS1 and Epi1 are still alive and kicking. It’s a wonderful vitola for me.
