Popular Post CaptainQuintero
Before I discovered the Distinguidos, these were the only Cuaba that I enjoyed. A bit of a strange release in terms of vitola but they have near overwhelmingly positive reviews. I'm honestly surprised that the blend hasn't been used for subsequent releases, especially considering the protected status Cuaba seems to have. Decent draw, no issues. I remember these being packed with peanut butter flavour and sweet raisins, fingers crossed they are still going to perform since last having one 3/4 years ago. First third starts off very much like a Ramon Allones; stewed dark berry fruits but also some sweet cashew. No peanut whatsoever surprisingly. Touch of rum sweetness and very rich. It's hard to place this, it's like a very refined RA like the 2008 RA Phoenicio but less fruity. No spice at all. There is that dark, brooding element so emblematic of the ELs from this time period. The familiar accompanying wonky burn is still there too. Second third and finally the peanut brittle has come in. The fruit has all but gone and has been replaced with a dark chocolate biscuit note. It's all very similar to the Upmann Mag 48 EL, some very strange similarities between the releases from around the same time period are showing here, certainly interesting. The burn issues persist. Final third and the burn has sorted itself out. The dark peanut brittle is the core but some of the stewed RA fruit is coming back with a vengeance now. A hint of fresh baked brown bread decides to come along for the final few minutes. 90/100 a very pleasant cigar but seems to have just lost a little something that made it stand out so much in those early years. I think they used to be pretty much straight peanut M&M smokes and while this new evolution is enjoyable, it's not spectacularly unique.

Akela3rd
Very similar experience to the one I had yesterday (including the rain). Coincidence or consistency? Ah, the mystery of Cubans...Sent from 47171 Lempo
TheMonk
Great job, and I agree - some cigars just loose their uniqueness with ageing!
