I haven't looked at mine in about 8 months. I think they are right in between the lighter shade and darker shade. I'll try one at some point this year. They seem like they are still readily available, so that's why I haven't really thought about trying one. Maybe just no love for VR
I bought a box of DA before they were gone, and I wish I had bought several more. The seem to have gone up significantly to the point where I don't want to pay the current market price.

Good stuff....should always clean up and lube any parts where the pads/calipers move when doing brakes.

Changing the oil.

I've done it a hundred times on various cars and trucks if I've done it once.

What's it take- 15 or 20 minutes?

Why should a Toyota Tundra be any different?

Other than the splash guard that fell on my head, scattering dirt and dust in my eyes, it would be a simple task.

Well, as long as you don't count the underestimated head pressure of the oil pouring out of the drain pain due to the 8 quart capacity (I was thinking it was a more standard 5 quart capacity).  It came out so hard it splashed the right front tire- there really wasn't any way to position the drain pan in a way to prevent the first quart from missing its target.

Now to change the filter- I'm going to one-up Murphy.  I bought the ratcheted tool to unscrew the oil filter housing.  Internal oil filter.  I'd like to give the genius who came up with this idea a swift kick in the ass.  But simple- unscrew the housing, replace the filter, bada bing, bada boom.

What's this plastic thing packaged with the oil filter?  It looks cheap.  I don't need it.  Okay, now to unscrew the housing.  No problem.  There appears to be just the filter itself that needs to be unscrewed.  Annnnnd there's the last quart of oil coming down all over me.  But at least it washed off the dust and dirt that got on my face earlier.  That cheap piece of plastic was apparently used to drain that hidden quart.  Wiped everything down, screwed filter and housing back in place.  Spent the next 30 minutes trying to realign the splash guard.

Total time spent- 2 hours.  To change the oil.  I was embarrassed, angry, and defeated.  All because I wanted to save a few bucks.

New cars just aren't as DIY friendly as the older ones.

I drive a Tundra and did the oil the first time myself. Screw it, I just take it to Express Oil now. Yeah, it costs $90, but considering the amount of synthetic oil it takes and the pain in the ass, it’s worth it.

Oh yeah- learned my lesson on that one.  Not worth the 30-40 bucks you save.

That's my favourite cigar ! Will leave it a little then before I smoke it as the Don benefits from a little age. Would love a box now.

I changed the oil on my Ram 1500.  Until I cracked the filter housing one time over tightening it putting it back on.  In theory super easy to do, but now I've had it changed the last two times.  Have yet to mess with the brakes, but I'm sure that's coming soon.

When I was younger I used to do all of my own work. Now that I’m older and can afford it, I pay somebody else to screw things up for me.

Not sure if the following is Murphy’s Law or Stupidity or a 50/50 mixture. If you have the time read this. I know I have too much time on my hands for typing all this. ?

Day1) get a prescription for talconex ointment for psoriasis from dr. and drop off at pharmacy. Get a call from pharmacist that the medication needs a prior authorization. Have your dr.’s office call your insurance company. If you pay without insurance medication of 60g tube is $900 USD.

Day2) Doctors office calls insurance company to do prior authorization. The main nurse of 25 years at the doctors office is slowly retiring and someone new taking her place. So the new one handles it. ? .......a week goes by.

7 days later) Denied. I call the doctors office and tell her fill out a reconsideration form and submit it again. She says she cannot do that. I tell her she can. She says no. I call the insurance company. They say she can. I call her back and tell her she can. She says how. I tell her to call the insurance company and they will ask her three questions. She huffs and says I’ll get to it tomorrow.

next day) she did it.

7 days later) denied again. I call the insurance company and say, “what is the problem here”. The gentlemen tells me it doesn’t look like this nurse wants to help you. I say “why?”. Well, he says, we asked her three questions, all she had to do was answer them correctly. You were dead in the water on the first answer she gave us. The question, WOULD A DIFFERENT MEDICATION BE LESS EFFECTIVE? Her answer NO. Ugh! ??

3 days later) I call the doctors office and the older nurse answers. I say, Susan, PLEASE help me with this. Sure Joe. I explain, she says sorry for this I will straighten it out. The next day I get a call from the pharmacy and my script is ready.

The pick up) pharmacy says your prescription co-pay is $415. ???. WHAT.!? Yes says the pharmacist , tacolnex suspension. I said NO, prescription says ontinment NOT suspension(suspension is the liquid). Well we have suspension put in our system. I said check the written prescription from a month ago. Pharmacist says oh, you are right, the pharmacist tech entered it in our system wrong. Well, your doctor needs to call your insurance company and resubmitt it. Me: no you need to change it in your system, you made the mistake here at the pharmacy. You entered suspension when the prescription clearly says ointment. No can do he says, insurance approved what we entered into our computer. ???

14 days later) ?????? dr. Straightens it all out.

The pick up) copay is only $298 for a months supply of 60g tube of ointment ??? Me: give me my written scrpit back. Pharmacist: ok give me a minute.......30 minutes later, we cannot find it!

Finally) go back to doctors get another written script for Taclonex Ointment. Order from Canadian Pharmacy $70. Done.

2 days later) Pharmacy calls back saying, Mr. Lepore, we found your prescription. Me: Just burn it.

TOTAL........ 6 weeks.

THEY WALK AMONG US! ?

So for 6 whole weeks, you were going around, dusting everyone within 2m of yourself with skin flakes ? :P

But more importantly... how freakin' much for ointment?! $298 for a months supply?! That's crazy. Our Medicare system may not be the best, but I'll stick with it, if the alternative is ridiculously expensive medication.

Had may own visit from Murphy last year while changing out the rear wheel bearings on the wife's car. I figured I could save 400 bucks by doing it myself after a few quotes I recieved. With no success and after a trip to the store for a wheel bearing puller which pulled out the bearings from the hub. I Then started using a no-bounce hammer and torch to no avail. Ended up pulling the whole knuckle off of the car then putting it back on and letting it sit over night with PB blast on the break plate and hub, I still could not get the bearing hub off of the break plate. I ended up threading the 4 hub bolts halfway back on then using an old socket over the bolts to hammer the crap out of them to get the hub to break free from the break housing. Luckily I started Saturday morning and finish mid day Sunday. ff1494ed68f68f3dc886764a98dad3f5.jpg0c27465a7d68d46df922008c326835fa.jpg3634fcac72fa31471ebe04d420bff9a8.jpg1b9a07e8207dcf880f3a9e7f35961b0a.jpg96f99033bbcdea6b8e4c6d5c49358bad.jpg

And the best part is I pay for prescription coverage every month. But if I have less than $5000 in the bank and my income is below $12,000 a year.........it’s free. What a racket. ???

Our Pharmaceuticals Benefit Scheme (PBS) helps to alleviate the cost of a lot of medications (up to $40.30 per script under the co-payment). And if you are a senior citizen or concession card holder, the prescriptions cost about $6.50, and are capped at $390/yr ($1550/yr for people on the safety net scheme).

It really comes into play when you are looking at life saving medications that would normally cost tens of thousands of dollars per year, but under the PBS (if they are on the PBS) you pay until you reach the cap. For example, if a cancer medication costs $2000 per script, you pay up to the cap, then after that it costs the maximum co-payment cost of either $40.30 (general) or $6.50 (concession card holder) per script.

Sounds like a better system than here.

Changed my fuel filter tonight. Found out the you tube video I referenced neglected to say that the fuel line will dump out when disconnected. This may seem like common sense, but I figured the pump was between the filter and the tank, assumed and did not check, and would keep the fuel back. The video showed a few drops leaking out from what was in the lines and then stopped. I soaked myself and the garage floor with probably 1-2 gallons...

Then the damn clips that hold the line to the filter would not clip. The other 2 clipped fine, not that one. After 30 minutes of cussing and cramping up under my truck, they finally clipped in with a little coaxing. I need a cigar....

I was so defeated after that I just showered and went to bed. It was as if the entire tank was leaking out. The video said it would slow down eventually, but after a gallon or so I put it back on the old one. Got the new one ready and did the switch as fast as I could, was drenched a second time. The clips I assume should go onto the line first, then slide into the filter. I did it the other way and of course out of the 3 lines the one from the tank was the one not wanting to clip into place. Finally got it, and learned several lessons the hard way haha.
