Ok boys and girls, I'm still planning my aristocrat purchase and want some more opinions before pulling the trigger. If you did it over again what would you do differently? I know the number one thing said is everyone would buy bigger. Besides that is there any other option you would have selected? Temperature control, more fans, extra singles drawer, etc...? Just dont want to make the purchase and wish I did something differently. Thanks!

I got mine used but...I would want the temperature control personally. I don't have it on mine and it's in the back of my mind that my a/c has to be running more because I no longer use a wineador.

I second this. I use a wineador, however, having it running all the time to keep the temperature just right dries out the humidity inside. For that reason I have the AC in my house set at 70 all day every day just so my cigars stay perfect. Call me crazy!

How do you guys feel about running your wineadors and what it does to humidity? Or running the coolers in an aristocrat? My humidity is insanely stable with it turned off. With it on, it was all over the place depending on the times that I checked. I use boveda so the setup is kind of mindless, but if my hygrometers were ever off by even 2-3% I'd lose my mind.

I had mine running but had a ton of beads! I also had the condensation drip down into beads with a fan nearby so I almost never had to add water... With enough beads the RH comes back pretty quickly.

I also had a unit where the max temp was too low. So I had a temperature sensor that would shut off power to the unit at 68, turn on power at 72. This reduced the amount it was running significantly.

I have the MPlus & wish I had gone larger. Playing Tetris gets old, but a nice problem to have, I guess. Since I have boxes behind boxes on every shelf I wish I had pull-out drawers.  I maintain an Excel spreadsheet with details of my stock including which shelf, front or back, each box is located on.  I do an inventory twice a year checking each box for mold/beetles & to make sure my spreadsheet count is correct.  Hey, it’s my only hobby so don’t judge

Mine isn’t cooled but my house stays a pretty constant 68-72 degrees daily.

My first small cabinet humidor had a glass door. I went with a wood door on my next one and am glad I did.

That's interesting, why do you say that? I was planning on partial glass door so I could see my beauties.

No visible light transmission probably. Some people like to show off the goods though, I understand that

I understand showing off the cigars but I don't think the cabinet looks anywhere near as good with glass. Also, glass doesn't absorb and release moisture so I think that the humidor is more stable with a wood door. I like to have my cigars comfortably sleeping in a nice dark, private room all their own.

Inlays on the four exposed sides of the cabinet.  Perhaps an exotic wood choice?  I have natural cherry.  Looks nice and all that, but some crazy ass wood would be neat.

To be upfront, I've not one of these fine cabinets. But were I to invest the funds, I'd probably put it toward creating some kind of walk in - be it a closet, under stair space, etc. There are actually a few great threads here with member walk-ins. I'd provide links, but the search engine.... kinda stinks :frown:

I spoke to Bob yesterday about color choices.  He is ready to assemble mine.  I went with the Crotch Mahogany Inlays on the Sides and lower doors and glass on the front upper doors and he agreed to make it 23" deep( he will do whatever you want).  I also ordered sliding doors and did not get cooling. it is going to be in a finished basement that stays in the mid to high 60s year round.  He said he would send pictures when it is assembled before staining and I will share them. and of course when it is finished and filled. He said another 2-3 weeks so the real wait time is about 14-15 weeks.

I've had my MXT19.5 about a month and have started a conversation with Bob about options for bigger as I've almost filled it. Bob assures me I'll have no issue selling mine and I feel he's correct there.

If I had a mulligan and could makes changes they would be as follows:

  • Buy bigger - I'm not sure twice as big is big enough and it's a long-term investment
  • Would go with wooden doors - love the look of the glass, but now feel wood would be better in anything larger than an MXT19.5 for temp and humidity control
  • Go with greater depth than a 19.5 - 25" would have been better
  • Go with some exotic wood for door panels and side panels
  • If I go larger will have 2 pull out drawers over 1 - mine is full already

What I did right:

  • Ordered the Aristocrat
  • Had extra cooling unit added - standard was 2 and added 1 more. If I go larger will have 4
  • Went with flat top and not crown molding - just like the clean straight lines better
  • Found the manual for the controller online - it has more depth of what each setting really is and what can be done with it
  • Spent a great amount of time adjusting the hinges and closure magnets to get a very tight and secure fit all around - it's pretty tight now and my humidification units have not come on for over a week. (Dewpoint and humidity has been high here of late)
  • Bought SensorPush gateway & sensors  for Top and Bottom shelves - a bit anal I know, but I can watch temp and humidity at any time from anywhere - with solid doors would also be an advantage to never have to open it to check temp and humidity

If I think of anything else, I'll let you know.

So to those with glass are you happy with it or would you get the solid wood door?

I am happy with the glass.  Never had a humidification issue.  Water tank can last for month or longer.

Great...now I gotta 'google' "Crotch Mahogany" because I have no idea what that could be...

Edit:  Just say Swirl or Flame next time :)

Crotch is the term Bob uses for that wood.

I thought it was a bit strange myself when I first saw it.......I did glass doors on top and the crotch on the sides and bottom doors.  BTW- a old good friend told me the piece of string joke years ago...

Design yourself a nice walk- in humidor that can handle 500 boxes, then build yourself a house around it!?
