I also root for hometown teams where I’m located but the original teams will trump any hometown teams. Then there are teams I despise... Raiders, USC, Red Wings. Overall though, I just root for good games/matches if I am watching them. I like this response, but there's a lot of rooting going on in it. As an Australian, this is kind of funny to read. "Rooting" here is also a slang term for shagging! : )
Acclaym Posted September 4, 2018 Posted September 4, 2018 Indianapolis Colts fan here. I grew up in New Mexico with no sports teams within 400 miles. Surrounded on three sides by NFL states, Arizona, Colorado, and Texas, I had to be a renegade. I decided to cheer for the greatest offensive coordinator of all time, Peyton Manning. 1
bman75 Posted September 5, 2018 Posted September 5, 2018 Religion. For God so loved Cleveland that he gave his one and only Browns, that whoever believes in them shall not perish but have eternal life.
Ericbrobes Posted September 5, 2018 Posted September 5, 2018 Where me and my family is from, go Cubs!
joeypots Posted September 5, 2018 Posted September 5, 2018 Another Massachusetts guy. Sox, Pats, Bruins, Celtics. What a run it's been the last 18 years. The Sox and the Patriots were perennial losers for generations and now have 8 titles since 2000. And the Red Sox are looking pretty strong this year. What a gift for even the fairest of fair weather fans.

wineguy Posted September 5, 2018 Posted September 5, 2018 I live in Pittsburgh. Do I have a choice? Steelers!
ShortFatHokie Posted September 5, 2018 Posted September 5, 2018 I follow professional sports but I don't really have a team I pull for. However, I have been a Virginia Tech fan since I was 9 years old. My aunt and uncle took me to my first Virginia Tech game then, and after the game, we walked around campus. I knew at that point, I was going to go to college there, and I did. Introduced my wife to Virginia Tech and Blacksburg the year we started dating and she fell in love with the place, too. She ended up getting her Masters Degree from VT. We have been Hokie Club (sports athletic fund) members since the late 90s and purchase both football and basketball season tickets every year (haven't missed a home football game since 1998 and have attended many road and bowl games as well during that time). I bleed Chicago Maroon and Burnt Orange...win or lose, I will always be a fan. Can't wait until this Saturday, first home tailgate of the year. It will start around 8 AM for the 2 PM kickoff and will continue after the game until well into the night, long after all the other cars have left the parking lot. GO HOKIES!!! THIS IS HOME!!!
soonerwings Posted September 5, 2018 Posted September 5, 2018 I grew up within 20 minutes of Memorial Stadium and have spent more than half of my professional career home in Oklahoma. I’ve earned three degrees from OU and have always felt at home in Norman and on campus. Sooner born and Sooner bred. BOOMER!!!!Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Bill Hayes Posted September 6, 2018 Posted September 6, 2018 Richmond Tigers AFL - My uncle Max played for them in the 40's and 50's and my cousin played as well in the 70's Melbourne Storm NRL - I'm from Melbourne Chicago Blackhawks - Wanted to follow a team that was from a city I wanted to visit and was cold plus like the logo and also wanted to annoy a Canadian mate who follows the Canucks as madly as I follow the Tigers in the AFL. It also made sense that the captain Toews is Canadian. Miami Dolphins - I liked Miami Vice so chose them. LA Lakers - When I was young they were great with legendary players. Seattle Mariners - Wanted a team that probably isn't on everyone's radar plus I love the ocean and fishing and want to visit Seattle. Chelsea - When I grew up everyone who played soccer at school was either Greek or Italian. To me, Gianfranco Zola was what a football player should look like. It helped that the only Englishman in the side was Dennis Wise.

fitzy Posted September 6, 2018 Posted September 6, 2018 Both of my parents grew up in the Bronx and I was born about 15 blocks north of Yankee stadium in a hospital that doesn't exist anymore. I've been a lifetime Yankee fan. I was a Tottenham Hotspur fan because my neighbor is a huge spurs fan and he's the one that got me started watching the EPL. I frigging hate Daniel Levy. The guy's a scumbag. I had started watching Liverpool games back when Brendan Rodgers was the coach as I enjoyed their playing style so eventually I became a full time LFC fan.
