Cocoa notes  in a cigar  is a wonderful thing.  It is far more prominent in some marques than others. At the same time, some members can identify the characteristic better than others.

it is the Easter weekend so let's get into  the spirit with an Easter Cigar Competition :spotlight:

I will put together 3 samplers to win containing my selection of cigars with a "confectionary note"

So 3 prizes to be drawn by Greg Tuesday our time.

One prize will be the thread with the most member likes and the following two prizes will come straight out of the draw.

So

STEP 1

have an easter drink in hand

STEP 2

go to your humidor

STEP 3

Pick a cigar that you associate with cocoa/confectionary.

STEP 4

pick the cigar and pour another drink. Hell, leave the bottle.

STEP 4

Cohiba Maduro 5 Secretos   SUM FEB 17 : ERC

Cheers! Been a member for a few years but have never posted a review before; this seemed like a great time to start.I have chosen a Cohiba Maduro 5 Secretos for this. It’s only a year old, but it’s still a little chilly in the US Northeast so a petit corona size seemed like a good way to go. I’m pairing it with a Cabernet.

Main pre-light observance, other than the leathery, spicy smell is just how beautiful and well-constructed it is. Even with the smaller size, I expect a Cohiba to “look the part”, and this little guy does.

First third draws excellently, with a mixture of coffee, hay, and a little pepper on the tongue. I almost feel like I should say I detect chocolate right away, but if I do, it’s faint at the start – and likely because I’m looking for it...

As I get into the second third the flavors start to meld nicely. There’s a distinct cedar and spice profile here, and I am definitely starting to get some chocolate. Not just chocolate, but a deep mocha (I again reach for the wine).

The final third continues as the second; more intense, but smooth at the same time. It’s now also letting me know, subtly, that even at this size, it’s still a Cohiba. I can feel it, and it’s still burning beautifully with lots of smoke and great flavor.

All-in-all I have to say it’s a great little flavor bomb, especially if you like a strong/sweet combination that you can get with a Maduro. These should get even better with time in the humidor. I’m now going to chase this little Easter treat with a Godiva dark chocolate truffle and some more wine.

Happy Easter everyone!

What can I say? Thanks for the "likes" and if the prize is made up of chocolate cigars that's perfectly fitting and correct. This has certainly made a dirty, wet day at work much better! Thanks to Rob and crew for setting this one up. ???
