I can't recall ever see any LGC Taino 10 boxes for sale even on B&M or grey market.  What do you think they are worth?  Just curious on the value.

A quick interweb search has them at £300.00 from a reputable source (including UK tax), and a pair of boxes went for £400.00 at auction elsewhere. There's also a questionable (IMHO on price alone) US$120.00 out there.

That doesn't sound like much of an increase for UK as I bet EMS boxes sold for similar when current, or am I off on that?  Yeah, $120 is pretty questionable or one heck of deal.  I wonder how many are available at that price?

Yes, it seems the market value for these is in the 275-325 GBP range as of late 2017. Additional auction and shipping fees factored in you're looking at around 350-400 GBP out the door or about $500, give or take.

Not a bad ROI on these as I recall they sold for well under $100 in the early 2000s, although IIRC there wasn't a lot of high praise for these around the time of their demise

In 2005/2006 there were plenty of boxes from 2001 on the grey market. They were terrible; when you had the luck to find one that wasn't plugged you realized they were rolled exclusively with volado leaves. Totally bland, tasteless crap…

As with anything they are worth what you're willing to pay for them.  That said I recently paid €270  (332 USD) for an OSU (Partagas factory) 1999 10 count box at auction.  In recent years I have seen them go between $250-$332.  Unfortunately I had a determined bidder going against me and I paid a premium.

So my recollection was correct. I remember not many were too upset to see these go at the time. No one liked them anymore. A huge casualty of the early 2000s quality drop.

Of course, no one knew at the time that this was just the beginning of the Churchill purge.

Yes, this is a little closer to where they seem to be at. The prices in the $350-500 range seem to be for 1999 and earlier 10 boxes. 2000-onward seem to be in the $250-350 range.

But as pointed out above, I'd only be picking post-2000 boxes up to collect, not smoke. They were pretty lousy the last few years leading up to their demise.

I picked up a couple of 2011 boxes for CHF128 a box back in mid-2013. Smoked a couple of sticks after a few months acclimatisation and haven't touched them since. Looks like it's time to fire one up and see how they've aged :)

I've got an intact SVF May 2005 box. I feel pretty confident that they'll be decent. Good factory code for that year as well.

The box I have remaining is OSU JUN01.   I bought it around 2005 and the previous boxes were all flawless.  This box has nice color and sheen to the wrappers.

Out of interest, sure it has been 2011?

I have a deviating experience. The final years, '08 and '09 production, have seen excellent cigars. The mentioned '01 stock I can't comment on. They were only officially discontinued eleven years later, so quite a stretch from there (though I haven't seen and own anything younger than 2009). Great cigar still. The unassuming 10-ct dress box didn't help in moving it I guess.

That said, a 2008 box offered to me about three years ago at twice the original price I didn't bite on. Similar quality to be had at regular pricing from other marca's running production at that time. Today, I wouldn't waste a single second on considering to buy any at the current inflated price level.

Box code is RUE Jun 11. Tainos were discontinued in 2012.

Thanks! I know, but official discontinuation is ≠ final availability, that's why my question. I have never seen any dated later than 2009. That production year obviously was the last imported here in my neck of the woods. Otherwise I had certainly stocked up on 2011s. Good to know, thanks for the info!

Sell that box (not in the trading rom :P).  My OSU MAY 01 were looking very good, with that sheen to the wrappers, etc, but tasted like spring water…

Was probably one of the last Tainos rolled. I got my boxes from a small retailer in Switzerland who clearly didn't do too many international online sales. I had to jump through quite a few hoops and send a few emails to get payment through and the boxes shipped over to Asia. Not to mention having to fill in an online order form which was only available in German (which I don't understand). Really makes me appreciate Di @WarriorPrincess and how easy it is to place orders on 24:24!

I have 2 boxes, 2009 vintage, still in my humidor that I picked up from Club Czar back when you could still buy them.  I had 3 but sold them to one of the guys that I smoke with weekly, maybe a 2 years ago, for what I paid for them back in 2012.    Glad they are worth a lot more now.   But there was no way I was selling them to a good friend at a 200% markup.

At this point, might as well wait until 2021 for the 20 year mark if I were to sell.  Would trade for something I am more apt to smoke now.
