Cheers guys - glad you could get around the firewall.

Trying to give this thing a positive spin: it's oddly gratifying and even encouraging to see how crap democratic governments are at internet censorship.

I never thought I'd say this, but "long may this government incompetence continue!".

Not my fav song but in the words of Starship - Nothing’s gonna stop us now and Ian love the quote from my fav movie SW

- from OZ land where you can be treated like really good mates and have a yarn and smoke cigars or just something Fuzz can pick on (for no reason) ?

Don't ask me why, but I've long had an affinity for Australia and Australians - well before becoming an FOH member, and I truly love our mates here...

So please - do not take this as any kind of attack.... but for me, this is scary. It is communist government, it is taliban.

It's not a workplace filtering worker internet access - it is a government deciding what the populace can read.

It is Orwellian.

What are they so afraid of anyway???????

The Government are dumb to assume they could control it/us, when the go around was a simple change by way of a new web-browser. IDIOTS.

I think it's more a case of the Gubment "appearing" to do what some perceive to be the right thing. Then again, maybe I am giving them too much credit...

OK, to add a bit to my last post, the UK have done the same thing to various sites, torrents sites and so on. But they have simply ordered all isps to block these sites, I assume Oz has done something similar,  simply using Tor browser bypasses these restrictions completely. Be aware though that on its own it doesn't make your browsing anonymous, and I believe it is even possible to tell that you are using Tor as the traffic is different in some way.

This is an attack on our free speech, yes we are lucky we can go to another browser but what if that wasn't an option.. With so many vile things freely available on the web they pick on a harmless chat site which supports friendship, fraternity, laughter and loyalty.

How absolutely moronic this government is..

Thank you to Rob, your team, and the fantastic membership of this great forum for making it possible to continue and support our great hobby.

I'm not exactly sure what big brother did to you guys down under, but from what I can gather it sounds like a sh*t deal. Glad ya'll figured out a way around it cause this site just wouldn't be the same without ya'll.

I still intend to support our worldwide FriendsofHabanos community. In fact, this (situation) motivates me even more to do so! :lol3: :ok:

You should book a week in Hawaii as support!

Sorry to be obtuse, but what exactly was enacted in the recent ban? Is it an advertising / promotion ban like in Canada? Have they blocked websites containing smoking content?

I'd like to read more and I can't seem to find any articles that explain it.

I have yet to meet an Aussie that winges. I ran a business in the US that had an OZ subsidiary based in Perth. I was there 10 days each calendar quarter and came to love the city and the people.

Aus government regulation eventually forced me to shut down the entity (and the jobs it supplied). I'll never grasp OZ politics. But I love the people and the country.

I am toasting up a Partagas Lusitania as a salute.
