You could check with a magnet. 316SS isn't magnetic and pretty common - but I wouldn't be surprised if they are 420/440 which typically would be a better choice for holding an edge. No numbers stamped into the blades?

I love the breadth of knowledge in this forum! I will definitely check it out with a magnet as they do not have anything stamped into the blades other than "Eloi Pernet" and "France Depose".

On a related note, I got another one in the mail today. Supposedly from the 70s. When I saw the picture on eBay, I thought it would be much smaller, but it pretty much runs the grip of my hand. The paperclip was a poor choice for comparison.

I like it! Think that would be a perfect size
And all the pieces look to be assembled with riveting? Screws are so unreliable IMO.

My Grandfather came home from WW2 with something very similar to that design. Same roller on the side, but the inlay was silver. I snuck it out of the house once when I was 7-8 years old and lost it. Thanks for showing us your collection!

They look like a Dunhill copy.  Is that lacquer inlay?

Yes lacquer inlay. Just some kind of gold tone. Interesting the Lighters from Japan seem pretty well made. Side striker still free and snug. That one appears unused.

So I was going through some old boxes today and I came across this lighter/cigarette case. I don't know much about it but thought you might enjoy seeing it. Its a bit beat up but I don't think too bad considering its from the 30's - 40's.

Isn't that the same thing some non-briar ttobacco pipes are made from as well, like The Pipe or Yellow Bole?

These are all rad. I like tobacciana too, but I don't really have any myself.

You're thinking of "Brylon" a patented heat proof nylon/sawdust composite.

I picked these up recently in Katoomba (Aus - NSW).I think they are c1970. A Win "Alfie" P-800 (Silver/Steel Lighter) and another Win Mk 5 P-500 (the gold colored one). Wasn't sure if they worked when I bought them. They both sparked nicely. I put some gas in them. They work a treat! Lit up a RASS with one of them. I know Win is a Japanese brand. Anyone know anything about these particular model lighters?

I found this old silver lighter among my grandmother’s things after she passed away.  I googled the patent number, and found a similar lighter that looks more like a crown, but one website had this exact lighter and it was called the “decanter style” version.  The silver looks brilliant when it is all polished up, but it is too much work to keep it polished, and it looks kind of cool unpolished as well.  It was made between 1936 and 1954.

I know this is an old thread but figured this guy’s videos I found fits in with this thread on old lighters. Cool videos and what an amazing collection.
