Will agree with you on the Super Partagas.  Just a delightful reliable smoke.  For when you just want to have a known quantity to smoke to relax and have no interest in experimenting.

My sentiments exactly. I bought a box of Monte Puritos alongside my first box of Partagas Chicos and they’re still just sitting there. I’ve had several Chicos boxes since. The Chicos are good bang for two bucks.

Thanks for the feedback @CaptainQuintero

Yes, I understand they are short smokes and that is precisely what I am looking for.  I love the classical Partagas flavours of the D4 and E2 but I cannot smoke those everyday.

In terms of strength, would you rate them as medium or closer to full?

I don't really think there are any full strength (nicotine) regular Cubans now, apart from some LE releases. Possibly the RyJ Cazadorez, the odd wayward Bolivar.

Body wise (boldness of flavour) I'd say these are solidly medium though :) same in regard to strength too.

For a surprise package try the Quintero puritos, to me they have a solid CC flavour and not in the 'inspired by' box. Sweet and rich tobacco. I like the Partagas Chico but feel like they fall slightly behind the Quintero in terms of it smoking and tasting like an actual cigar

I love Quinteros. To me they have great flavours which I know some might find strange. Have you ever tried the Panetelas? I just noticed them while making a purchase and think I should give them a try.

Now you're talking! :D

The Panetela are the best of the line imo, they're what got me into cigars. Sweet grass/hay, rich, a bit of milky cream, beautiful little sticks!

I've got a review on here of them somewhere

These are definitely underrated.  As are the RG and PL Panatelas.  These are great value smokes.

This thread started me thinking of the many smaller/less expensive offerings from Partagas.  Confusing and hard to understand why so many.  Has anyone done an "A" v. "B" or compare/contrast of Partagas smaller offerings:   Shorts, Super Partagas, Mille Fleurs, Petite Coronas Especiales, Aristocratas,  Habernos,  Junior,  Partagas deLuxe  et al.....,  the list goes on

Haven't had the PPCE,  Habernos,  Jr. or deLuxe  but would rate the others in this order:    Shorts,  Super Partagas, Aristocratas,  and Mille Fleurs

Initially (until the mid 90's, I think) they were spread between different markets: every european country had his favorites; the only place that had them all was France, and maybe Spain.

Online sales have put an end to this repartition, as the grey market vendors get their stock from everywhere…

As for a rating: I've smoked all of them and came to the conclusion that it depends on the batch: sometimes the Mille Fleur is the best, the year after it's the Super Partagas, etc.

If price is not an issue you should stick to the Short which is always one step above in terms of taste.

Recently some PLP caught me by surprise. I bought a partial 1-year old box blindly, never tried them before. It's a very inexpensive cigar (about $3/cigar), but I was pleasantly surprised how good they taste. They don't blow my socks off, but they have a solid tobacco core and somewhat citrusy medium bodied profile, very easy to smoke.

I'd love to try some Quintero too but I haven't seen any on 24:24 this year

They don't usually unless there's a clamour for cheap an cheerful. They are in the standard Czar web store though

One of my favorites; I have two that have been resting in my humidor for three years. I plan on breaking them out when an old friend visits in a few months!

...but I'm trying to figure out how I can convince my wife to let me grab a new box (since I'm currently way over my budget for this pay period) :D

Smoked an SCDLH el principe from 2003 (my first SCDLH) almost a year ago that blew my socks off.  Sweet molasses.  I followed up it a few weeks later with an SCDLH la punta from 2003 and was equally blown away.  Ordered a 6er of the el principe a few months ago from here, smoke one fresh and was wowed.  Just ordered a box of the el principe from a recent 24:24 and itching to get them in.  I did not expect much from scdlh, but have been pleasantly surprised.

On a different note, tonight i'm smoking a bolivar no. 1 from a box i purchased here a few months ago, and it too is a very pleasant surprise. I bought the box b/c it was discontinued, but didn't have high expectations.  very strong and bold.  Bit of mongrel, but classic bolivar flavors.

Finally got my hands on a box of Rafael Gonzalez PC box code SOM FEB 16. The wrappers looked pretty ugly IMO (almost candela like color) but I grabbed one ROTT anyway. I was expecting it to be wet and bland. Totally took me by surprise with rich flavors firing on all cylinders after the second puff. Perfect draw and thick luscious smoke. I get it now.

Same here I have a '15 box that was kind of rough but flavorful. Can see the potential with a bit of age to become a beautiful medium body with full flavor cigar.

Just smoked a Partagas Petit Corona Especiales that I picked up from a tobacconist in Dresden. There’s not much in the way of good CC shops in this town, so I thought, colder weather moving in now that I should try some smaller vitolas I hadn’t sampled before.

I wasn’t expecting much given such a low price point, and I hadn’t read much about this particular cigar anywhere.

Despite a shoddy burn requiring regular touch-ups (blame the fact that I was smoking in a fairly gusty wind), and a pretty loose draw, I was very impressed with the flavour.

Initial notes of cream, leather and pepper persisted throughout, but I tasted something I hadn’t experienced before in other cigars - a flavour that put me very much in mind of condensed milk. Sweet milkiness, for want of a better description.

Combined with the Eminentes size (42 x 132), which sits so well in the hand, I have to say that this cigar defied all expectations. I will need to try another one under much calmer smoking conditions.

Which cigars have you smoked that defied all expectations?

I smoked a 2013 example recently that was outstanding. It was the first cigar I’ve smoked in a loooong time that reminded me of what pre-2000 partagas used to be like. Never underestimate a cheap partagas, lol.
