mwaller Posted August 4, 2017 Posted August 4, 2017 It seems that recent vintages of Punch Punch have become a forum "darling." I have two boxes from different 2015-2016 date codes; one is a PSP box from 24:24. I've tried a few examples from each box, and I don't find anything particularly distinctive or delicious about them. I'm inclined to believe they just need more time... What do you enjoy about Punch Punch?
Chuckmejia Posted August 4, 2017 Posted August 4, 2017 2014 50 cab of punch punch... the floral profile on them is just perfect. It's a shame that they have discontinued the 50 count cabs. I'm not a dressed box fan.
JohnInCleveland Posted August 4, 2017 Posted August 4, 2017 i love the size and the blend. I find them fairly complex and nuanced. Different strokes. 2
Guest Nekhyludov Posted August 4, 2017 Posted August 4, 2017 I'm a member in good standing of the FoH Punch Punch fan club I love the vitola, and with the P^3 specifically I love that I can count on solid performance. That's a rare luxury for me in the world of CCs. I've smoked several dozen over the past couple of years and never had a dud. The flavor profile also suits me particularly well. It's complex, nuanced. I think it's among the most elegant profiles - for lack of a better term - among current production.
ElPuro Posted August 4, 2017 Posted August 4, 2017 I bought a 2014 dress box, smoked a few and immediately bought a cab. Lots of good flavours.
Texwrangler Posted August 5, 2017 Posted August 5, 2017 I fell in love with Punch through this year's blind cigar competition. Since then I've purchased some cabs and dress boxes. Preferring the boxes at the moment and letting the cabs aged a bit. It was the subtle floral nuances mixed with some dried fruit that I found intoxicating enough that I was sold on them. Will always have some in storage as long as I'm into cc's.
Doctorossi Posted August 5, 2017 Posted August 5, 2017 For me, the best thing about Punch Punch is that they remind me of Punch Double Coronas when the latter aren't at hand.
Islandboy Posted August 5, 2017 Posted August 5, 2017 Besides a wonderful array of flavors as others have mentioned, I love the molasses on the aroma. I’ve only had 3 out of my RAE AGO 15 Cab, and the very first was awesome, with the next two not nearly as good. I’m hoping it’s just a matter of time.
MPfit Posted August 5, 2017 Posted August 5, 2017 I'm not in the fan club. Love the vitola however only had 3: each from separate samplers and all 3 the same. Maybe I got mediocre samples but all these floral talks must have evaded me; I got leather and wood on all 3. Good cigars?- sure. But other than the vitola I wasn't happy with them. Maybe I expected too much? Maybe they were too young? (No box codes).. I don't know. They were strong, and tasted of leather and wood (good sure but not complex or anything as most seemed to have experienced). I wouldn't turn one down- they ARE enjoyable, but I wouldn't seek them out.
JLFIRST Posted August 5, 2017 Posted August 5, 2017 This was one of my first Corona Gorda after the JL1. I love the true Cuban flavor of the Punch Punch. This is a cigar that needs to be in my rotation much more! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Tapatalk
zeedubbya Posted August 5, 2017 Posted August 5, 2017 Punch is a strange Marque for me. I used to detest Punch cigars back in the early 2000s. The only one I liked was the Ninfas. I had a good friend who loved them and he tried hard to convert me. He gave me Punch Petit Coronas Del Punch, RS11, 12s and SS1 and SS2, and Punch Punch and Punch DC and Punch Churchills. To me they were mostly just bland mild musty tobacco. Some of those Cabs were less than $250...HOWEVER. I was wrong. Those same Punches he gave me I now love. So tasty. Sure wish I would have bought and kept 20 of each vitola. I've considered maybe it's a change in tastes. I couldn't stand Espresso then either. Now I love it. As to your original question, what I like about current Punch Punch is they're ready to smoke nearly ROTT. I think they're delicious. Have a few Cabs and dress boxes sleeping and one I am smoking from. Can't decide if I should seal them and age them or smoke them--First world problems for sure! 2

Won't question your experience, everyone picks up on different things, and obviously we haven't smoked from the same boxes, I've never noticed either flavor you mentioned though. I don't like leather or wood flavors in most instances, so I'd probably be as disappointed had I sensed them.
BrightonCorgi Posted August 5, 2017 Posted August 5, 2017 Big fan Punch cigars... As for Punch Punch, it's a great size and consistent quality. Even the buying from the big online vendors of recent box code Punch Punch are darling cigars; especially in Tubos. Great cigar for tubo... 1
sjmistry Posted August 5, 2017 Posted August 5, 2017 I enjoy the clove-like flavor I get from then. -Shake
MahDooRow Posted August 5, 2017 Posted August 5, 2017 I'm definitely a member of the Punch Punch fan club. At their best they offer a pronounced herbal "tea-like" flavor mixed with leather, cream and wood, along with a hint of floral sweetness. They smoke well young (i.e. 8-12 months from the box date), they age very well, the cabs are good, the dress boxes are good. I smoke Punch Puch quite often. For those that have said the flavor profile lacks complexity and is dominated by leather and wood, I will concede that I have smoked a few of those sticks. As with any vitola you will sometimes get a less-than-stellar example. However, I've never had a whole box/cab of "bad" Punch Punch, just the occasional random cigar. It happens.
TBird55 Posted August 6, 2017 Posted August 6, 2017 Love them, bought 3 cabs when they discontinued them. Wish i had bought 3 more.

JohnS Posted August 6, 2017 Posted August 6, 2017 In my opinion, the difference in 2015-16 Punch Punch and Punch Punch from 2014 and earlier is the fact that the 2015-16 Punch Punch has been so approachable despite its youthfulness. For me, I've had Punch Punch in the past that was woody and flavourless, or alternatively, there was a sense of 'wet' leather to them that indicated the need for resting. But recent Punch Punch has really excelled with its combination of cedar and spiced cream at medium to medium-mild strength. I believe this is the reason for their recent popularity amongst FoH members. 3
