We had a city councilman who was a preacher in addition to his municipal duties. He regulary molested young boys ( one of which who was mentally retarded) at the church during private youth counseling sessions. He took pornographic pics of his junk and gave one to the boy as a keepsake. The boy's mother found the pictures in his book bag and sent copies to the local TV station.  He was arrested and convicted of felony child molestation and various other multiple offenses.  He plea bargained the case down to an infraction, served 30 days in jail, then immediately reassumed his municipal responsibilities upon his release from jail.  He went on to be re-elected several more times and had a large building containing the school board and the municipal tax office named after him.  The Bob Walton Building Charlotte NC.  I will leave it at that.

It's that old game: the Productive versus the Plunderers.

We know which category the vast majority of politicians are in. It seems their primary occupations are stealing as much as they can get away with & remaining in office for as long as possible.

apologies but i have missed the point about spelling mistakes.

my point is that it is still corruption whether it is a few dollars or millions. or do we accept a limit now? does anyone think that if a politician is happy to rip off a few thousand that would not rip off far more?

To me it's much more offensive and disrespectful of a politician to fill out a form it rip off a society for a 50pence bath plug, that it is to try and perform a grand theft of ££££££££ of pounds.

I was living in DC at that time and Berry's multiple re-elections were ponderous man, just ponderous!. We had a local government official who recently purchased Screen printed T-shirts for his family reunion and charged them and all his travel expenses, including hamburgers and hot dogs, to the tax payers. A quick news report and he was back on the job, with the Mayor's blessing.

so do we have a limit?

corruption is okay if the amount is under?????

Corruption is never ok, but to use such visceral language in describing somebody who stole $3500...well,  what's left for rapists and murderers?

I think I read this on the joke competition thread but it seems more factual statement than a joke.

shlomo, can't agree on this one.

no argument re murder etc but i think you are downplaying the corruption. this isn't not some bloke who nicked a few grand from someone (as bad as that is) but someone who represents the public and who has a track record of these actions, treating the public with the utmost contempt. for me, corruption might not physically hurt someone but it is a crime of the highest seriousness.

apparently this pig was interviewed about her corruption.

her response - "cry me a river". and because of our inane system, which allows her to ride the coattails of others, she will be re-elected next time.

It's clear that politicians are the same the world over...it's just a matter of degree as to their self serving nature.
