Habana Mike Posted June 25, 2017 Posted June 25, 2017 Anyone following this? Kiwis are crushing US. http://www.sailingworld.com/americas-cup-one-and-its-done?src=SOC&dom=fb Love it any time Larry loses! Been competing against him my entire career... 2
Colt45 Posted June 25, 2017 Posted June 25, 2017 Watched last and this weekend. No idea as to whether it's the boats or tactics. Nation means nothing anymore, and I don't know who Larry is. Foils, hydraulics, etc - it's not really sailing anymore. Go money.
semifan1 Posted June 26, 2017 Posted June 26, 2017 When was the last time a traditional sail boat was used early 90's?

Remember waking up in the middle of our night to watch that. Would love to see racing back in that venue! Big breeze, big waves...just full on! Kiwi's put gave the US a proper beating this go around! Good on 'em! Congrats! I was surprised at how much actual match racing happened in the semi's and finals. Foiling (or not) can get you in and out of trouble pretty quick. I'm torn on whether this is good for the sport or back to mono hulls. The foilers certainly make for better TV. 1
Baldy Posted June 26, 2017 Posted June 26, 2017 Congrats to the Kiwi. Man for such a small country they sure are good at a few things, Rugby, AC sailing and sheep. 1
Jeremy Festa Posted June 26, 2017 Posted June 26, 2017 Love it. It's pretty amazing. God forbid technology and any improvement or excitement in the sport though. 1
OZCUBAN Posted June 26, 2017 Posted June 26, 2017 Congratulations to New Zealand not an easy thing to do ,it's only ever been done once before not keen on the new boats though I prefer the 12 metres my self or just yachts in general 1

I am oblivious to what is going on now but I certainly celebrated 1982 on the day at the 747 Bar at Wynyard station at if my memory recalls 8am in the morning!! I did not go to work that day.. unbelievable scenes

I did not go to work that day.. unbelievable scenes again guys, 1983! i had a moot in front of a future supreme court judge that arvo and was as nervous as hell. it was the very last thing i needed for my law degree and if i failed, six months before i could re-take it. so no celebrating for me. my moot partner (cricket fans would know the name), a friend since we were little kids, decided to amuse himself. he removed every page marker from all the law books. it was a monumental catastrophe. so bad that i got the utter and complete helpless giggles (never have since that moment). so did my mate. so did the opposition and thankfully, so did the judge. we all did nothing but laugh for at least five minutes and i could not stop, even as i felt my law career swirling down the proverbial sink. to this day, i still believe that the only reason i passed that moot was because the judge had slammed into the back of dad's car on the way to work the previous week. best coincidence ever. best crash ever!

(Concerning TNZ) There were no Americans on Oracle Team USA’s crew, which included five Australians and one from Antigua. http://sports.nbcsports.com/2017/06/26/team-new-zealand-routs-oracle-team-usa-to-win-americas-cup/
wabashcr Posted June 27, 2017 Posted June 27, 2017 Lost interest in the America's Cup after Dennis Connor fell out of contention. And then 8-9 years ago they had that drawn out legal farce about who was the rightful challenger. It was interesting to see Oracle's massive comeback a few years ago, but I can't cheer for anything that benefits Larry Ellison, especially after how he bilked San Francisco out of all that money to host the event. Kinda happy to see the Kiwis shove it up him this year. 1
