Hi FOH,

I was searching around the forum and couldn't find a post about having tea with a cigar. Is there any particular tea that you would recommend? I know coffee is a great substitute. But on my regular diet of 2 - 3 coffees a day I would like to have something that will not result in me being so caffeinated and highly strung that I begin to hear what color sounds like!

Any recommendations are much appreciated.

Luca

Puerh tea, Keemun, Lapsang, Lan Gui Ren,all work nicely with a cigar.

Try the Shou (cooked ) Puerh first,it is richer.

I'll look them up. Thank you garbandz!

If you were searching for "tea", you would have gotten 0 results, as the search function doesn't handle 3 letter word searches.

I've really been enjoying Lapsang Souchong recently. It's very earthy and smoky; I add a bit of lemon that provides acidity to balance the alkalinity of cigar smoke. To my palate, it really opens up the flavors in medium-bodied (or lighter) cigars. But it get's overwhelmed by full-bodies smokes. I tried it with a 2011 PSD5, and it didn't contribute much.

That explains why I never find search results when I'm looking for factory codes!

When Davidoff introduced the 702 series, they arranged a tasting combined with tea. They served "Assam" and "Lapsang Souchong" tea.

Me being a "yank" I drink lots of tea but almost always of the iced variety. Very often while I am enjoying a cigar. What I have found is most American teas cannot stand up to a stronger cigar. However from my limited experience most Cuban cigars will pair very well with most if not all brown or black teas. Oh yeah one more thing. This stuff called "sweet tea" that is served here is not tea!

Lapsang Souchong and Tary Souchong are my favorite teas with a cigar, strong or mild.

*Those black teas and Darjeeling-type teas are absolutely lethal to my poor and brittle teeth. However, iced herbal tea sweetened with organic, raw honey is my drink of choice with my wonderful seegars!

I like to drink some cups of green tea over the day but don't like to pair it with cigars that much. Different story with Genmaicha, which is green tea ( for the most part not the highest grades ) mixed with roasted rice. It more and more takes over the role of coffee which is my usual drink of choice when smoking.

It usually has only little caffeine and no problem in drinking it until late. If you're not sure about the quality, buy separately and mix to to your liking.

Seconded, with enthusiasm.

The smoky flavour of the Lapsang Souchong works very well with mild to medium cigars, and the slice of lemon really cleanses the palate.
