It's been more than a few months since Rob put up Hamlet's Non-Cuban Hamlet brand cigars on the 24:24.  For us in the USA we've had access to them since the end of last year - maybe earlier. I think the last one I smoked was in April and I loved it (Robusto).  I've smoked the Robusto and Salamones and much preferred the robusto.  Super dark with a black inky brooding sweetness to it.  Super smooth with lots of dense smoke.  A really nice change of pace compared to my beloved Cubans.  His cigars didn't leave the usual horrible ashy aftertaste most NC's do.

For those of you who jumped on them early, and have smoked them recently, how are they progressing?

I did not and still don't care for them. I have one occasionally when I am at a local lounge. Even with his magic, it's still a Rocky Patel NC. Too in-your-face strong and monotonous for me.

I agree 100% with Lotusguy. I was really excited to try them! I purchased a five pack when they were first released, and like 90% of all NC they have that same crappy aftertaste! Some have said it's from all the minerals they load the soil with so they can get that white ash. It's a shame, maybe one day he will hook up with a company with better tobacco to choose from to show his great talent!

Had a Robusto two weeks ago, the Salamon the week before. The robusto is still my favourite in terms of boldness and complexity. The Salamon is a smooth, sweet smoke.  The Corona hasn't done much for me so far.  I am definitely not getting a "dirty NC" feeling on the palate from these.  While the parent brand is more of a cigar marketing  venture, Hamlet is a tobacco man.  And I think his blend exceeds the best NC"s I've smoked thus far.  Very enjoyable.

I've only tried the Corona so far, and that was a recent production one from his visit to Victoria recently.  I very much enjoyed it, and would put it amongst the top of my NC list, but I still think the Joya de Nicaragua Antano Lancero trumps it just a little bit - just a touch more depth and complexity in that one for me.

I agree wholeheartedly!   I will see the man Friday evening just 10 minutes up the road from my house. He is making his rounds here in northern Virginia this weekend!

I've had had a lot of burning issues with the Toros but not with the Robustos,go figure

I've had two of the coronas and two of the robustos so far, both of which I really liked. I've had a Robusto after a stupidly huge meal at home and the rest whilst camping. The corona is pretty intense but very flavourful, the Robusto smoother. Slight burn inconsistencies on all, but nothing major.
Building up my smoking muscles to tackle one of the Salomones...

The burn self corrected and I have to say I quite enjoyed that cigar. I never would have grabbed one if I hadn't read about it here. Thanks for the topic OP.

Tried the corona first, found it to be rather bitter, like 90% cooking chocolate with no sweetness at all. Not my cup of tea but have a couple more resting in hope. The robusto was a different beast, lovely smooth smoke, altogether more flavoursome and a little sweet. Quite heavy on the nicotine but I was prepared for that. Have some salomones, might try one in a few weeks as a reward at the end of a dry month.

I will probably buy more robustos when I have the coin, unless something more tempting is on the radar.

In our cigar shop they were hot items for short while, now we can't get rid of them.  5 or so boxes left on closeout and not re-ordering.  Not his fault, just nothing special.  I think if H had better tobaccos to work with he would do magic.

Smoking a corona at the moment. I agree with you. It's harsher than the robusto experience. I'll definitely buy more robusto when in the B&M.

The robusto was by far my favorite.  I can't judge the quality (or lack thereof) of theleaf Hamlet had to use for his line because I am no expert.  What I have smoked from my box of robustos has been very good.  Did not enjoy the Salamones, thought the one (yes only one) was much lighter and lacked flavor.

I do not know what kind of contract Hamlet has with Rocky Patel, but I would LOVE to see what Hamlet could do with some Fuente tobacco.  MY NC dream would be for Hamlet to get his hands on some Opus X tobacco and role a custom line.

No contract. He is employed by Rocky Patel. His primary purpose travelling throughout the US is to support his cigar brand and sell cigars, which are essentially under the Rocky Patel umbrella.

Great guy, the tobacco though sadly is just not good, IMO of course. If only Hamlet cold get great tobacco..

Keith.

The insinuation being "Cuban tobacco" right? That will most likely never happen with the result of November 8th. The embargo will stay firmly in place and most likely Obama/Cuba relations will be erased. Hamlet lives in the USA, and he has to work with tobacco that is "legal" here.

I'd be happy if he could get his hands on Fuente or Oliva Tobacco

I had the Solomon that came with my latest sampler bought here. It was just ok for me. I prefer many other NCs
