I can get this tower humidor at a good price - does anyone have any experience?

Verona.  22x16x67 - they say it holds 3,000 sticks - but I'm mostly interested in aging boxes.  The 4 cedar trays on the top 2 shelves are removable for box storage.

I'm not in love with the A frame roof...LOL...it's actually dead space that can be used for storage but this would be going into the basement so no one but me will be seeing it.  For the price I'm paying for the cabinet delivered - it would cost me more to buy cedar plywood to try and build one myself.  I'll have to just add the active humidification and some fans to be in working order...

Have you checked into how much shipping would be? That vendor charges an arm and a leg for shipping.

If it is that cheap and it doeant sound a scam buy it. Just be sure there are no holes on the wood.

it looks good, depends the price they offer you  .  they get problem with top and bottom humidifier .

 

m8 , be honest,  with the big size humidor , not a smart choice to build yourself.

The seal is not great. In the winter months, it'll leak humidity. You could buy all-weather seal from Home Depot to put around the edges where the door closes. I'd suggest you get fans with your active humidification system because the RH is likely to vary from top to bottom. If your basement is cooled during the summer months and heated during the winter, you'll be fine, otherwise the temperature swings.

Wow holy crap that's great. I'd jump on that deal. My only concern would be that the seal is good, but that's something you can really know before buying.

Thank you I'll look into beefing up the seal and I don't open close too much at all.  My basement is no more than 70-72 in summer and stays 67-69 in the winter.  I'm looking at this system that Mattb turned me onto - for active humidification.  They use it in the Avallo: Accumonitor 20-40.  1 controller, 4 fans and 4 cannisters.  Not cheap but he says it's awesome.

I have an Avallo cabinet with the Accumonitor. It does work well. Just set the RH target at 59-60

I have had that exact edition as one of my humidors. For 6 years now. The screws on the hinges have come loose.  Also the bottom does not hold humidity that well. I tighten the screws, and even taped them.  I used weather stripping as well.  Mine was shipped free, too, and was under $600, back then.

 I only have 2000 cigars in this one as the bottom is dead space   :-(

i got the same exact one about 7 years ago. i paid 500$ for it. still have it, no issues at all. its my main humi. i keep it in the basement. I use electronic humi devices and i have no issues with humidity, it varies a few degrees but that's it. i have about 1800 cigars in there, mostly in their original boxes as well. its full now though. i imagine you could fit close to what they advertise with smaller ring gage cigar or\and no boxes. honestly i find its a good buy especially for the price. it smells divine every time i open it. its well built and looks good in my opinion.

Now we're talking - an honest review from a fellow FOH - thanks much for the comments.  I'm looking at about $535 delivered to NY....just 2 boxes of stogies....

Bottom line....at the end of the day (as long as you're not looking for a living room showcase piece) if the structure is decently crafted and the seal is good (even if I did have to add some weatherstrip) it all comes down to what type of humidification/controls system you put in there.

And I think 1800 cigars would be just fine for me...as my wife thinks that my Diamond Crown St James that holds just 160 works well enough LOL!

I own two of these, and I am inclined to agree.  The door does need a bit of DIY to establish a good seal, and active humidification with extra fans is a must.  When I first got mine, I registered as much as 20% difference in RH from bottom to top .... not good.

I could see that RH% spread happening - those 8 drawers in the middle probably restrict a fair amount of circulation flow.  The Accumulator humidification system comes with 4 fans - hopefully that works, if not - I have a few small 4" fans that I can add on.

Also - not seeing that many pictures - could any of the shelves or those singles drawers use some extra routing out for greater opening and enhanced circulation?

I have the "tower of power" I got it 3-4 yrs ago, I love it & it's my main humi.

I had 3 lbs of beads in it, then moved to a Hydra (which was a hand me down, and won't go below 72%) Next week I am buying a Xikar Magna 2.0. I have spoken to a few people who have my humi and the Magna, and they said it's great with no issues & completely adjustable.

I got mine for $650 shipped, I say go for it, we'll worth the $$

odd never got those issues. from top to bottom, it does not vary more than 4 degrees, and that's rarely the case. Of course i have a an oasis xlplus at the bottom and one at the upper middle of the humi. and honestly its pretty stable...i don't need to refill those for months at a time. seal as never been an issue or even an afterthought.

I have, believe me...I've done my research, The Avallos are expensive, the Xikar is half that. I'm still torn honestly, but leaning more towards the Xikar

Nice to know.  I just bought the humidor and I'm going to order the Avallo Accumonitor later.  The Accu comes with 2 water canisters, each one independent with 2 additional small fans...

godphoenix is running 2 oasis XL plus with good results...the Accu in effect is the equivalent of 2 humidifiers with the 2 independent canisters....

one is no good i tried that. and i had a bigger one. you need 2 humidifiers to keep humidity at comparable levels because you need to place one at the bottom and one middle way up.
