Professor Twain Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 So there has been a lot of talk about the new rules allowing Americans to bring cigars back from Cuba. I am already well supplied and I'm not sure that I am going to find unique stock or better prices there, although I'll keep my eyes out. I'd like to bring some Havana Club 7 back. Does anyone know if you can buy that at a Duty Free shop at the airport, and let them give it to you as you exit the plane, so you don't have to pack it in checked luggage? Also, anyone know the price at Duty Free (if they have it at the Havana Airport) versus buying it elsewhere? I've ordered HC7 from overseas but the shipping costs are high. Thanks for any info from someone in the know.
NSXCIGAR Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 Not sure if your question is whether or not the HAV Duty Free carries Havana Club 7 anos specifically or whether you can carry it on the plane, but I know other Duty Frees carry it. You can also place any product in amounts under the import/duty limits in your checked baggage if you like, or take it on the plane from Duty Free. Either way. I don't have any experience personally but I doubt Havana Club is cheaper at a Duty Free than it could be found on the ground in Cuba. I'm sure others know much more than I do about pricing and locations to buy, though. 1
Habana Mike Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 As said above, you can buy Rum in the airport post-immigrations but prices are comparable to many other places on the Island. For me, I'll buy in advance and pack in checked luggage so I don't have to deal with it on the connection. Plan to bring a few back and deal with duties as they appear to be fairly negligible... 1
Rye Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 Not sure what the Havana Club 7 goes for there, but the HC Selecion Maestros is a much better drop and worth the 40cuc The Ron Cubay 10 year is my favorite Cuban rum I've had so far and I think it sells for 30cuc 1
Ryan Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 Havana Club 7 year old is 16.90 cucs now. At the airport you'll have a better chance of finding a litre bottle. 19.45cucs I've always seen lots of HC7 at the airport, it's usually quite a good selection of rums they have, though I probably fly from a different terminal than you will be, travelling to the US. Prices at the airport are the same as in regular shops in Havana. If you don't have an ongoing connecting flight, it's an easy way to buy rum. 1
Professor Twain Posted October 20, 2016 Author Posted October 20, 2016 Wow, thanks for the great suggestions. Yep, I will have a direct flight back to Tampa so buying at the airport and not having to worry about breaking bottles in my luggage is how I will go. I have had the Maestros and my palate isn't good enough to prefer it, but I will definitely try toe Ron Cubay as well. 1

Wow I was just at Frankfurt duty free and HC7 1 Liter was 22 euros.

May just be my personal taste but I find the Anejo Reserva to be just as smooth as the 7 anos and a bit richer. And about half the price. But, as Rye indicates, I'm sure there are even better rums for less money, like the Ron Cubay.
dshapiro Posted October 21, 2016 Posted October 21, 2016 Havana Club Anejo reserva is great and cheap! Also grab a bottle of Santiago 11 too! One of my favs. Both can be found at the airport.
