Well, this was a weekend to forget.  My dad's been fighting a good fight against cancer but his quality of life in the past year has really suffered and after his last round of chemo really hurt him (

Thank you so much for sharing the articles about your dad with us. I know well how hard it is to go through a loss like this. Cancer took my dad 11 years ago, and even now, there is not a single d

Sincere condolences to you and your family mate.  Reading the articles the following stood out :  "I think about integrity when I think about him," What a fantastic epitaph for any of us

Skalls, the emotional pain you would be going through, that is, the conflicting emotions of relief and sadness for your father's passing would be as difficult as your father's battle with the physical pain he went through.

I sincerely hope you can grieve with your loved ones around you now and through doing so, grow closer as you comfort each other.

Condolences to you and your family in this difficult time.  When you shape environments for others to exist in, you never go away.  Even when perspectives change.

I'm sorry for your loss.  My thoughts are with you and your family.

Thank you for sharing the articles.  Your father certainly was admired, and for good reason.

I am saddened to hear this my friend, my condolences to you and your family.

I have written this many times and I hope it helps you.

In reading your post at first I felt a fragment of the sadness that you must certainly feel. I too have lost loved ones. Shortly thereafter my spirits grow lofty, as I think of my own father, lost on earth, but with the Father and ever-present in my mind. I hope this will happen to you as you begin to distance yourself from grief.

You may be on the forum, driving, or any of a million other activities, suddenly you will smile and feel happy. Your wife, or friends may notice, they won't be able to ignore you elevated mood. You may say, "I was thinking of my Dad..." or something, perhaps you will say, "Oh, nothing really..." You will realize then that the soul is never lost, and he is always with you. I will be something like a "regular" call. Perhaps like, when you would think of the "folks" and they would suddenly call. It will lighten your day, and not sadden it.

Cheers mate. -Ray

Thank you so much for the words of kindness.  Got to work today and I swore I was a martian by the looks of my coworkers lol.  Today was a day to try and be normal again (or at least the new normal).  Will be taking Thursday through Monday off as I'm sure some stuff will come up post funeral.

It sounds like your dad held on as long as he could and let go when he knew you were there for your mom. I feel for you and wish you and your family find peace and surround yourselves in memories of your dad. Seven years ago, my folks died three weeks apart, one of congestive heart failure and the other from pancreatic cancer. The passed very differently. My dad was there one minute and dropped. He was gone before he hit the floor. My mom spent the next few weeks in hospice and faded away with tears in her eyes. I visit them in my dreams on occasion and know they are dead. Very bizarre but comforting. I wish you the best. Let me know when yu are in the cities. Time for the Minnesotans here to get over their shyness and gather for a smoke.

I always struggle with times like this, I feel like anything I say will never carry enough weight and could never come across sincerely.

I just hope you and your family's pain passes quickly and the warmth and light of life can come back into your lives soon
