Is it generally considered a great place to age your cigars?  Or is the lack of air movement a negative?

Oh man absolutely a great place. @El Presidente stands behind it so strongly, he'll even buy them back from you if you get in a bind. That's posted here somewhere.  No risk

As good a place as any.

As far as air movement, the consensus is less is better, particularly for long-term aging. Cigars should almost always be stored in their original packaging, including tubes, which of course allow for about as little air movement as possible.

My main concern around making use of the OLH is increased shipping risk over time and/or potential taxation for some of us, um, international customers.  But that has nothing to do with the quality of the service.

It certainly is a very welcomed service by me. Just don't have the space to store any more boxes ATM.  Plus it keeps my paws off them for a while. :)

The longer you leave them in there, the older they'll get :wink2:

If you're concerned about storage conditions, I'd not be - climate controlled. I believe there are also wine collections stored there.

And Smithy's Star Wars action figure collectibles....

14° Celsius and 65% relative humidity. 3 boxes to be kept at all times and for a minimum of six months prior to shipping. If you haven't registered already, got to the LOCKER tab on the top left hand corner of any forum page after you log on and check out the FAQ link.

Be mindful, as previously discussed on the forum with members in the first half of 2016, there are some changes expected soon with this service. @El Presidente will let us know in due time of these changes.

I hope so on the first as I have a "couple" of boxes collecting dust there....

Figure if it's good enough for Rob's stock it's good enough for me!

Do we know if the storage containers are ever opened?  Is it possible mold could develop after many years of no fresh air at all?  Would the cigars be insured for mold?

I believe your stock is inspected on a regular basis and photographs sent to you

Provided the environment is a stable 65%rh (and I imagine it would be rock solid), mould should not be an issue anyway

I don't get pictures, though i've never asked. I imagine it would be a pain in the ass to do that with the amount of stuff in there :o

None of mine have ever had mould on them. Just chill out and use the system. If there's ever any problems, contact Rob directly and he'll sort you out.

Think of the OLH as a giant wine storage room, but filled with lockers of cigar boxes. Pretty sure the lockers allow for air circulation.

Mould needs liquid water to bloom (even microscopic droplets), so with a static temperature and rH, you never get that micro condensation, thus no mould! :cigar:

Running nicely at 64% RH and 15.5 C.

Boxes are withdrawn daily/weekly by members. So there is a constant checking of stock by the team here as well as those receiving them.

OLH is not for everyone.  I store them at the conditions I like. They are where my cigars are.

Ya i was thinking about this after i posted it.  For some reason i was thinking of a sealed tupperware container.

Carry on then :P

Edit.  I guess because the faq mentions "sealed storage container"

Well, the OLH wouldn't be so successful if Rob said the storage space was actually an unused outdoor dunny! :P

As opposed to a used outdoor dunny?

lol...   i just mean,  i think they sit in the warehouse, controlled environment,  but not necessarily a air tight sealed tupperware (which may not be good if it was never opened)

Anyways I will just stop asking questions now.

It's where he did his greatest thinking  ( ShooAway for instance ).

ShooAway was born out of necessity for the used outdoor dunny ?

I'm pretty sure they also keep the arc of the covenant there  along with many other forbidden artifacts from days gone by. ?
