Round. Smooth wrapper. Light brown.

Tastes of light tobacco. Every. Single. Puff. Light tobacco. Boring smoke. Binned it at the half way mark. Life's too short to smoke boring double coronas. I didn't know rob sells CAOs. :lmao::P

Just taking a stab at the dark with this one.

0-4 so far for "super-taster" ayepatz. But, undeterred, undaunted, unabashed, and unashamed, I'm pushing on full-steam ahead for the final humiliation. As a Scot, the wooden spoon is a trophy with which I'm well-acquainted, and a useful tool it is for taking one's medicine!

The DC was the first of the 5 cigars I smoked, so these notes were taken months ago, but I remember what a great smoke it was, and I would still rank it as the best cigar I've smoked this year.

Prominentes

Construction - spot on. beautiful cigar.
Nose - barnyard, fungal
Cold draw - easy draw, slight nuttiness.

1st third - Mild opening. Stonefruit, peachiness. Creamy. Tiny flashes of white pepper. Voluminous smoke production. Slight saltiness. Dry but not tanniny. Beautiful easy smoke. Well-balanced. Feels like there's a good few years of age here. Ash dropped at end of third.

2nd third - Still mild. Very creamy. Still stonefruit. Hint of coffee, but not much. White pepper again, but not much. Bit of wood coming through, more pine than cedar, wee bit of leather. Creamy still. Flash of citrus, like tangerine? Ash drops right on cue again.

3rd third - Strengthened but still under medium. White pepper coming stronger. Still hint of pine, little bit of leather and toasted tobacco. More milky than creamy now. Mild nuttiness. Salt again. Hit of walnut quite pronounced. More leather. Medium now. Saltiness gone. Fair bit of sweetness now. White sugar building and dominating. Walnut, leather and white sugar. Flash of citrus again.

Overall - Wonderful cigar, beautiful balanced smoke, indicating a good bit of age. Stonefruit, cream, leather, flashes of citrus, very sweet final third.

I'm also 0 for 4 so I'm obviously clueless at this game. Big long cigars aren't really my thing so the only DC's I've ever smoked are Luisitanias and RA Gigantes. This one was much milder than either of those.

All that said it was a very enjoyable smoke. Well constructed and burned very nicely, no tunneling or canoeing, even burn. Cold draw was barn and hay, slightly musty. Salt on the lips at first but that quickly went away and the rest of the cigar was nutty, slightly sweet, good smoke output, mild and smooth all the way down. Smoked it down to about the last inch. Very nice. I'm totally guessing.

Like the two fine gentleman posted directly above...I also have 4 strikeouts in this game (otherwise known as the golden sombrero in MLB ). Hoping to avoid the dreaded 0-for-5, I lit up the Double Corona on a beautiful Saturday afternoon.

The cigar was well constructed, even burn for the most part, and had an evolution in flavors over the two hours it took to finish.

I would list the flavors that I picked up, but let's be honest...my track record thus far points out that I might have better luck picking names out of a hat to get this one right...wait that's not a bad idea

The notes of rich tobacco, peppers, spice, with intermingled sweetness made it a very enjoyable way to pass a couple hours.

I may not get one right this year, but I had a hell of a good time doing it!

Thanks to Rob and the FOH team for putting this on. Can't wait for next year!

Cheers,

Dan

Had mine tonight.  I was a big dumbass earlier and actually crushed the cap when i tried to close my cooler (so lesson learned, don't force the damn cover  down).

Despite my idiocy, the cigar held.  I'm also 1/4 so my competitiveness took a hint since I can't win, but I can at least try and get another store credit =)

Cigar lasted 100 minutes.  Burn and smoke output were pretty good during the 1st and 2nd thirds.  The burn just didn't want to be even in the last third.

I didn't get any evolution of flavor throughout the thirds.  There was a rich tobacco note, a bit of spice and leather.  I think I can rule out 3 of the prominentes.  THanks to the FOH staff for putting this on.  Been fun, even if I've kinda sucked at it lol.

Smoked cigar #5 today...I must warn that 1) it was 90*F here in the mountains today (yeah! free lemonade tomorrow around town...its a tradition when it hits 90*F here in Nature's Air Conditioned City); 2) being the last day of the Tour de France, the French wine was opened EARLY today and I had consumed several glasses prior to smoking; 3) the wrapper on my cigar was cracked for about 1.5" from the foot.

Anyway, the wrapper on this cigar was a little lighter than colorado (colorado claro??) with several veins and as stated above the wrapper was cracked for about 1.5" from the foot.  Yeh, I could use this review for the Gnarly Cigar review competition.  It had a florally aroma about it.  Prelight draw gave me tea, floral, and sweet spice notes.

Once lit, the first few draws were very reminiscent of a DC I am familiar with...rich tobacco and a nice sweet, spiciness to it.  I was ready to call it right there but I smoked on.  Unfortunately, that muddied the water for me.

Second third was rich tobacco but the sweet/spicy had disappeared.  However, it was replaced with a nutty leather note with an occasional hint of fruitiness.  Wondering if the wine was playing a role in the fruitiness???  The burn on the first two thirds has been perfect.

Final third, was more of the rich tobacco and nuttiness but without the fruit.  None of the earlier notes came back.  Midway through the final third the burn went wonky, I was getting hot and in need of another glass of wine, so, I ditched it.

Final thoughts...Chris Froome rode an amazing TdF and is heads and shoulders the best cyclist in the world.  The French wine (Domaine de Fabregues Le Couer - 2009  Landuedoc) has been fantastic.  My ass is hot and sunburned from being poolside the last two days. And, I found this cigar to be slightly below to slightly above medium in strength and also thoroughly enjoyed it.  Will likely buy a box of whatever this is in the future if I don't already have it in my stash.

Au revoir et Dieu bénit, mes amis!

This one really had my brain in a pretzel. Light wrapper, good construction, slightly tight on the draw, but certainly not bad. Through the first half thought I was zeroed in on two choices. Woody, light tobacco taste. And then it the second half the draw opened up with good volume of smoke and a few quick flashes of sweetness which were quickly gone. The last third is seeing some repetition from the first. I am now fully guessing. I believe I can eliminate a handful of DCs, down to three choices now. Good luck!

First ever double corona for me, so this will be just an outright guess.  Very light in the hand, so I did a micro punch on it which was the right move as the draw was fairly open.  Just enough resistance to not be an issue though.  Colorado Claro wrapper, nice sweet tobacco aroma off the foot.

Cigar itself was very good.  Tobacco, coffee, cream, and beautiful raisin notes here and there.  Very long finish.  Despite the open draw, construction was good overall until the last couple inches where it wanted to go out constantly.  Smoking time was just over two hours.

Really enjoyed the blind tasting experience!  Humbling and eye opening :dunce: :looking: :lol3:

Cigar 5

Double corona
8:58pm. Paired with a dram of Old Weller Antique bourbon.

Initial light taste a bit of stewed fruits, touch of straw/wheat

This is a much larger cigar than my preferred vitola.

First third I'm getting a bit of the straw yet but also the toasted tobacco and salt?  With the bourbon I get more of a grassy flavor.

The flavor profile stayed pretty much the same the whole cigar. I enjoyed the flavor:
Pretty mild cigar throughout. Never got a big nicotine hit.

Finished it at 11pm. I'd actually smoke a smaller version of this.  I'm not sure what this really is so gonna have to take a shot in the dark.

Have all regular production DCs in humidor except one.  This is the one I guessed.  I got mostly same thing as nearly everyone else.  Very mild opening with sight notes of cream, toasted tobacco and a bit of leather.  Very much the same the whole way for me.  A few splashes of sweetness and spice on occasion.  Was an hour and 45 minutes of pretty much the same thing.  Strength kicked up a bit in last 3rd, but not by a lot.  I feel about this DC about the same as I feel about the Connie 1--I think it potentially becomes a more complex cigar with age.  I'm curious if this cigar would gain more nuances with age or if it is well aged and is representative of how aging could change another young DC I have had.  I'm sending another wrong guess probably but this has been extremely fun.  Its been eye opening to see how hard blind tasting really is.  Thanks FOH staff!

I love Old Weller!  Haven't seen it in stores for a few years though.

My favorite stick out of the 5.  Really enjoyed those flavors, whatever the heck they were!  I love DCs although I usually convince myself (unnecessarily) to smoke smaller sticks. Matched up very well to a DC pulled from my collection so I am keeping my fingers crossed for this one.  Good luck gentleman!

This was the best looking cigar of the 5.  Nice smooth, Colorado Claro wrapper with no noticeable veins and a slight sheen.  Smell was of toasted tobacco with a bit of barnyard on the foot.  Weight felt appropriate for the size and there were no soft spots or knots.  Expected this one to smoke well.  Opened with my 11 MM punch and the draw was just right.  Lit with my triple torch, poured some Basil Hayden over a couple of ice cubes and began my journey.  Smoke time was a little over 2 hours.

Started with a bit of stewed fruit sweetness, light spice and some leather.  Tastes familiar but not exactly like anything I've had.  Taste remained consistent throughout with a slight pick up in strength in the last third.  Had to relight a couple of times in the final third also.

Overall was an enjoyable cigar and would like to try again with a little more age.  Guess submitted.

Cheers!

This cigar had great construction with a pronounced box press and a very thin oily wrapper.

The initial draws were coffee, leather and a hint of apricot.

The same flavours were present during the first third, the apricot flavour accompanied by a slightly sour note as if it isn’t fully ripe. Med body.

Into the second third, the cigar continued the same trend with coffee dominating the profile, the addition of some bursts of white pepper kept it interesting.

The final third showed a pronounced increase in strength towards the end of the smoke, with the coffee and fruit notes dominant and the white pepper elements gaining more prominence.

A lovely cigar overall in one of my favourite vitola.

Thank you to all the FOH team, this competition has been a lot of fun.

I actually bought it at Party Source....  Just ask when they get their Buffalo Trace delivery (distilled by BT) and you should be able to grab a bottle (limit 1)
