This is an odd sort of joke...

Will have to forward this to @RealDonaldTrump . . . :P

I'm sure there's no malice intended, but that's pretty racist/xenophobic.  Maybe I'm a little over-sensitive because I've heard the American version, which is deplorable.

Good point. As soon as I translated this into "American", it became clearly nasty. Could it be I see a charming Australian wishing the best for his Maori, Indian and Muslim brothers while I can only see white nationalism when I think of an American toasting the departure of  people of color?

Whats the racist part? Where the aussie doesn't WANT to go back to his country?.... Poor brits :lmao:

I am truly concerned.  I was unaware that the Maori (race), Indians (race) and Muslims (religion) were being held captive in Australia. My opinion of the Aussies has been forever changed.

How did this become an American thing?  We weren't even in the joke.  There is hatred in every culture and there is beauty in every culture.

That very well may be the spirit the Aussie version posted intended.  It's not how I read it, because again, I'd heard the American version.

I certainly didn't mean to accuse you of anything.  I enjoy your posts, and would never suspect you had any ill intent in posting this.

I definitely did not post this with ill intent to anyone, especially Americans. I do think it is important to recognize what one person might not take offense to could affect others differently. I hope a healthy discussion ensues.

lol . . . touché Mus.

I don't know what precisely to think about 'well intentioned' off-color humor anymore.  In my travels I'm always pleasantly surprised at the cultures I come across that easily laugh at their racial and cultural differences with no ill intent, whereas in the U.S. political correctness has gagged this sort of speech.  Which approach works the better for diffusing stereotypes and discrimination?  That's also hard to say.  Some of the countries with the most relaxed sense of humor in this regard also have very entrenched cultural/racial divides, and political correctness on the topic is not solving much in the U.S. either.

I thought it was funny.  Gotta love you Aussies!  You'll drink to anything!  Well done!
