I was speaking to Ajay Patel in London and asked him why are the cohibas experiencing such a shortage? I asked him is it because of the tobacco shortage? He said no, in fact, it is a shortage of cabinets to place the cigars in (sounds like they are having a production problem). Has anyone else heard this?

That doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

Makes sense all I've seen recently are cardboard boxes of cohiba's for sale. I guess save your cabs and just re-stock that way for now.

Is Cohiba experiencing a shortage, or are they deliberately reducing supply to create a stockpile for the end of the embargo?

... sounds more like Tabacuba is not paying the bills again. Anyone remember the "brooch shortage?" Brandon, you probably do! Tabacuba is notorious for slow pay with vendors.

Yeah, I do remember. If the info comes from a Habanos rep, then I never would take anything at face value. We can't always apply logic and ethics to Cuba's business practices. lol. I guess it's a good thing I don't chase Cohibas.

Anything's possible w HSA, but the cabinet story sounds exactly like something they would say if the tobacco was really the issue. No one ever said HSA weren't good liars, and they've been doing it for decades. I always say, guilty until proven innocent when it comes to HSA.

I never really complain about shortages. I've always said I'd rather HSA limit production to maintain quality than crank out donkey poop with official bands as they did from 98-02. The quality of what 2015 Cohiba has popped up appears to have remained high, and that I can respect and be OK with.

With respect to the hoarding for the embargo lift theory, that one I just can't get on board with. HSA and Cuba in general just aren't that forward thinking. Even the incompetent Cuban economists can figure out that raising the prices are all that's needed to meet demand. The embargo's end is many years away, and I don't think they'd start sending out aged stock when it lifts.

What do you mean they aren't forward thinking? They came up with the concept of anejedos cigars a decade ago, kept the programme secret for a decade and not one person let slip!!

Yes, brooches=claps, made in Germany.

And of course the corresponding hubbub with Italian brooches (the Cubans claimed they did not use at the time) probably due to an exclusive agreement that they were not honoring! Yet, here is one!

As Brandon mentioned, you cannot trust Tabacuba with the truth... They don't know what the word means!!!

No, I am not going to relive the decades old debate over brooches!!! -LOL

Surely the current brooches are not being made in Gernany or Italy? I would guess North Korea given the abject lack of quality lol3.gif

There are half decent quantities of carton packs around in some cohiba....but it is still a fraction of what is normally available.

Lack of Cohiba packaging may be playing a part, but other cigars with similar varnished paskaging have been available (Trinidad).

No shortage of cohiba on the island I could see EXCEPT Behikes and Espys...Vendors I guess may be different
