2006 saw the release of the:

Cohiba Piramides LE (10 count box)

Montecristo Robusto LE (25 Count Box)

Partagas Serie D Number 3 LE (25 Count Box)

Interestingly, each was a re-release. The Cohiba Priamides LE (25 cigars) and Partagas Serie D No 3 LE were released oringinally in 2001 and the Montecristo Robusto in 2000.

While I see quite a few Cohiba Piramides LE 06 and Partagas Serie D 3 LE 06 being traded/sold from time to time on the secondary market, I don't see the Montecristo Robusto come up very often at all.

For those with one or more of those in your collections, a few questions.

  • How are they smoking today?
  • With 10 years down, in your opinion have they reached their zenith or are there legs left for further improvement?
  • If you own or have smoked a few of them, which one has proven to be the best (in your eyes) after a decade?

I would love to hear your input ok.gif

Great question. I jumped off the EL bandwagon in early 2004. I am looking forward to the responses here. Sometimes, I feel like I've missed out on some great cigars, but I have put that money into other, regular production that I have been quite happy with. i hope the responses don't make me regret my decisions.

I smoked my last Cohiba Piramide LE a couple of years ago, it was a gift from a generous Toronto BOTL. I remember thinking I was glad to have smoked it when I did, because it felt like it had peaked, it was delicious but with nothing further to prove.

Can't add any more than that.

I've got Monte Robusto LEs from both 2000 and 2006. In my opinion the 2000's are excellent (although the wrappers are fairly leathery) and the 2006's are just average. I'll smoke a 2006 tonight and check back. I've only got one of the 2000's left, so that one will wait until late on a mid-summer night.

I was never that high on he Cohiba. It's past its peak IMO and is a pass to me. Huge Partagas fan but the 06 I never really had one I liked. Most of the Partagas LE's I have not been a fan of. The 06 Monte to me has been a go to cigar. I do believe the 2000's where a bit better but the 06's have a beautiful milk chocolate creaminess. Have handed out a few to other good friends and everyone seems to highly enjoy them. Boxes are rare and tough to find. Probably smoked through two boxes so far and have really enjoyed each and everyone. Montecristo seems to be one of the few LE's that I have really enjoyed.

The 2006 Cohiba Piramides have been blah until just recently. The one I sampled recently was good, but nothing like the flavor bombs when they were young.

The 2006 Monte Robustos were good for a few years. But the last one I tried was flavorless. Either sick or dead.

However, the 2006 Partagas Serie D No. 3 have the right stuff. Full of flavor, spice and pepper. Down to the last half-dozen.

The Cohiba and Monte EL's have been OK, but regular production 06 have been very good.....go figure....

I only got my hands on the 2006 Cohiba Piramides back in 2010 and they were stellar. I smoked one last summer and IMO it's still got legs. I'll fire one up this summer too. :D

I had one recently too, thanks to Rob. POS Nov 2006 and I agree, it's got the legs. I've sampled a few aged Cohiba Siglo and Robusto cigars lately (thanks to Trevor) and this 2006 LE had the quintessential Cohiba grass/hay and honey and cream, only it was a little 'punchier' in comparison. I concur, stellar! lol3.gifok.gif
