I have been having a sore throat for around 3 weeks since the 31st March till today. tantrum.gif

Caught a viral infection and subsequent fever and the pain was manageable for a few days after that but somehow i caught strep throat before fully recovering from the viral.

I've seen the doc twice and he advised me to have it heal naturally rather than taking antibiotics.

Thankfully its on its way to recovery now. During the entire time i think i had more than 50 saltwater gargles which helped a lot (i usually have one after every cigar smoking session).

How do you manage your sore throat?

a thought for prevention - dr ayala (may i not be struck down for such blasphemy) put me on to a product (powder or liquid drops) called Biohawk Relief. it was mostly for stomach acid complaints but also works well for colds/spore throats. rob reckoned his kids had stopped having so many colds etc when taking this.

i take a tiny bit of powder in water morning and evening and gargle and swallow. has helped both enormously. and i have noticed that if i stop for a few days, sore throats rush back!

amazing stuff.

I'd keep any doctor that gives you the opt out of antibiotics when not necessary.

I have a long term acute care nurse for a wife so I get no sympathy. Salt water gargles and a case of the man up is my prescription for a sore throat.

I think your on the right track to a healthy recovery.

Biohawk Relief is effectively a high concentration (super concentrated) Ginger powder manufactured by Professor Hawkins here in Oz.

I take and gargle a teaspoon at night with 30 ml of water. Have been doing so for 5 years and I rarely get any illness. Mind you a teaspoon goies down like razorblades for those not use to concentrated ginger.

make a paste and put it on an ulcer. gone in the morning. Put the paste on a cut (hold on by jesus), brilliant.

Expensive. $144 AUD for 200grams. That will last me 3 months (Di uses it as well).

It is gold.

Interesting as I get them often due to my germ carrying kids always bring stuff home. My doctor thinks I get them more than normal due to allergies but this sounds like it is worth a try. Now can I find it in the states? I'll just buy it from Canada

it is indeed gold but i am going to suggest that rob is using way way too much. i use about the amount that would cover quarter of your little fingernail. it is more than enough. i get the same result as rob. was not aware he used so much. for me, no need (or perhaps i am just a more naturally healthy person!!).

at the emporium yesterday - the 12 year old is about 20% more expensive than the 16 year old.

I know. I think it's nearly 20% more alcohol.

Should have told me though. I was in there yesterday too.

also, apparently it is a limited release whereas the 16 is regular production.

This is true. Hence the price.

Cask strength, it gives the proper whisky snobs a 4 year glimpse into the future! snooty.gif

Gargling with dispersible aspirin has always cleared up anything throat related for me for years, just brilliant stuff. x2 tablets in half a shot of water twice to three times a day, don't swallow it, and it knocks away tonsillitis etc like a steam roller!

The paste version on ulcers etc instantly removes any pain and they are gone in a few hours too

The ginger concentrate sounds very interesting, my mum bangs on about ginger all the time and mums are never wrong!

Go see another doctor !

As mentioned above, both the salt water or aspirin gargle usually do the trick, but I use water as hot as tolerable. Also, hot tea with lemon and honey.

Kudos to a doc that doesn't overprescribe. All recs here may be effective, also ask doc if other things might be contributing...

ie allergies (post nasal drip), reflux. cut back on the stogies for a while frown.gif

ALL sore throats I get are preliminaries to a cold I'm catching. Can't STAND either. Can't enjoy my cigars that way! I keep an over the counter product called Peroxyl by Colgate on hand. It's got some peroxide in it and I gargle with it at first sign of a sore throat. I also keep natural infection fighters on hand like Echinaecia, Golden Seal, Myrhh, etc. combination herb capsules and take those too to fight back cold and sore throat infections. Done and used early enough one can keep the infection from spreading. On the other hand...if you've started too late I find that my good old standby Goody's Powders are GREAT for that sore throat pain as well. Hope some help here!

I had a sore throat on and off for a couple of weeks. I went to the chemist and got some Betadine to gargle. It was gone by the end of the day.
