Popular Post CaptainQuintero Posted April 17, 2016 Popular Post Posted April 17, 2016 Spring has finally sprung here and I'm making the most of it, it doesn't last long! http://i.imgur.com/sCY8RBF.jpg I picked this box up a few years ago and promptly forgot about it. I dug it out a few weeks ago and I can't get enough of them. These have near 15 years on them and initially I expected then to be on the mild side but they are little powerhouses, I'm guessing being cellophane-wrapped they have been sealed up and bubbling away all these years. First third starts out very sweet, that typical tangy stewed fruit; apricot and peach skin. No cream what so ever but surprisingly rich. I'm walking so I'm not expecting to get many nuances but they still appear. A dark tanic nature builds from almost an inch in and throughout the cigar this builds and builds, it's never overwhelming it just ramps up and up. The fruit follows this path, getting darker and going past stewed, down a caramelised candied route. The last inch and a half sees the sweetness vanish completely and the dark burnt fruit really come into the forefront. It's like a fruit expresso, body is just under full but stays balanced and doesn't even approach any harsh notes. All the the ones I've had so far have followed the same path, I'm guessing partly due to the construction of the cello wrapped cigars of that era. A solid 90 for me, this box keeps setting them up and so far I've been knocking them down every time http://i.imgur.com/RHsWOyU.jpg 7
Akela3rd Posted April 17, 2016 Posted April 17, 2016 I liked "Fruit espresso" - great phrase, very descriptive. Nice review. 1
Smallclub Posted April 17, 2016 Posted April 17, 2016 IMO the RA Mille Fleur was one of the best cheap machine made/tripa corta cigar ever, along with the Gispert Habanera No.2. Good review! 1
zeedubbya Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 I recall this being one of the first 10 CCs I ever smoked. It had to be this one. Cellophane sleeved Ramon Allones Petit Corona. I vaguely remember being on the golf course and a guy pulling these out of a neat little leather case he had and I remember it being all harsh and nasty with a wicked nicotine kick. I was certain it was a fake. But thinking back on it I don't believe it was. I believe it was just too young at the time. Nice review! 1
dvickery Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 Puffing away on a box of these ... Once you get past the taper ( and tight draw ) they are a wonderful smoke . Good review Derrek 1
TheMonk Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 Never did try this one... Seems like I should try and find some! 1
earthson Posted April 19, 2016 Posted April 19, 2016 For starters, I am extremely jealous! Even though I swore I'd never ***** myself out to a brand, R. Allones is one marca that seems blended just for me. For finishers, is that background of your pic Murmansk? It's beautiful, where ever it is!
Smallclub Posted April 19, 2016 Posted April 19, 2016 For finishers, is that background of your pic Murmansk? It's beautiful, where ever it is! Looks like Yorkshire to me...
CaptainQuintero Posted April 19, 2016 Author Posted April 19, 2016 Close! It's Chatsworth house in Derbyshire in the Peak District, one of my favourite places to tab about in all weathers, big open vistas and plenty of wildlife to gander at http://tinypic.com/r/25sq0j9/9 1
Eric E Posted April 19, 2016 Posted April 19, 2016 I have a box of these from 2004 in the humidor that, quite frankly, I had forgotten about. Mine are ugly little #%^{ers, but they have served me well. I'll have to pull one out when I get back home. Thanks for the review!
